In 2021, free produce on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays 10 to 1 PM; Open to All households. 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 5 children are food insecure (source: East Texas Food Bank). Every month, the Alto Food Pantry assists over 150 registered food insecure households during the monthly 3rd Tuesday distribution and over 300 additional non-registered households during the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays produce distrib
utions. The Alto Food Pantry is NOT funded by the government. Several local churches and organizations collaborate together to provide this much needed service to Alto families. Some churches and organizations provide a monthly financial donation or volunteers, and some provide both. The reasoning behind this is to encourage volunteerism, strengthen community involvement, and increase awareness. Volunteers generously donate their time by pick up orders, loading, unloading, sorting, inspecting, shelving, bagging, carrying out, signing up new clients, updating files, purchasing supplies, placing orders, and maintaining the facility. The Alto Food Pantry periodically partners with the East Texas Food Bank to provide on-site SNAP Enrollment Events to individuals who qualify for benefits.
