Thank you to all of our volunteers, it’s a wrap! We hit 3 street corners this morning, 71st and Jeffrey, 63rd and King Drive, and 79th and Cottage. The conversations we had this morning with the people on the streets of Chicago was amazing! Many of these people are no different than you and I and we love connecting with folks on the streets. This is the best part of the food drive and the reason why we love to get out here every year.

To everyone, please be safe today. I know a lot of you all are struggling with loneliness and depression that’s being exacerbated by the Pandemic and I understand too well what that feels like. We started this food drive so that we would have something to do on Thanksgiving to help in dealing with that by taking the selfish lens off of ourselves and putting it on someone else less fortunate than us.

Pick up the phone and call family, Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime, whatever you have to do with family and friends. We all need a helping hand, we all need to be encouraged, and we all need to be uplifted during these difficult times. Happy Thanksgiving!

I want to give a nod to the Coca-Cola Corporation for the beverage donation for our 5th annual Thanksgiving Food Drive & Fundraiser. They are discontinuing a line of products and we were able to take some of it off their hands to pass out on the streets of Chicago on Thanksgiving morning.

I’m amazed that it’s been 5 years since we started this food drive. Goes to show you that time flies!

We’re excited that we can continue the tradition, even through a pandemic.

On Thanksgiving morning we will be passing out fresh meals in select neighborhoods on the South and West sides of Chicago.

This week we worked on all of the prep supplies for “day-of” activities. We will do another once over later this week to make sure we’re good to go. People always ask about the “how” of what we do and we always like to tell people that, the meals we put together are as close to what all of us would eat at our dinner tables on Thanksgiving day. That’s the experience we want to give those on the streets that we give this food to. It’s hot, it’s fresh, and it’s the same food we eat on our dinner tables on Thanksgiving and that’s how it should be!

We’ve been seeing a lot of discussion on the news about the increase in food security because of the fallout of the pandemic. We’re looking forward to interacting with the community on Thanksgiving morning as we pass out our home cooked meals.
