TexasMountain Trail Writers are a group of writers organized in 1991 who enjoy writing and discussing our works in poetry, fiction and nonfiction, essay, and drama. Since several of our members reside across Texas and elsewhere our group has held meetings by Zoom beginning in 2020.
Chaos West of the Pecos is an annual yearbook published by our paid membership. Dues are $20 per year beginning in April of each year. The Alpine Public Library and Sul Ross State University maintain a collection of past Chaos publications from 1997 to present.

You would be most welcome to attend a Zoom meeting to discover and join our writers. Each month topics related to writing are discussed and a writing prompt is suggested. The writing prompt for March is “Eclipse.” Monthly compositions are limited to 500 words. It is not necessary to write to attend the programs.

Please contact us if you have an interest in attending the March meeting by Zoom on Saturday the 9th from 4 to 5:30p.m. We will then provide a Zoom link to you the week of March 4th.

We hope you will join us as a fellow writer. Thank you for your consideration.

We are looking forward to our program this month! Our special guest will be Tumbleweed Smith who is producer of The Sound of Texas, a radio series that began in Big Spring, TX and became the most widely syndicated feature radio show in Texas.

In doing his daily program for 52 years, this native Texan has gathered the largest private collection of oral history in the United States. Texas Highways magazine says he has probably recorded the voices of more Texas characters than anyone else.

Tumbleweed taught broadcasting and speech at UTPB for 34 years. He is a syndicated newspaper columnist. He graduated from Baylor with a BA degree in English and earned a Master's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. He studied law at Drake University.

He owns an advertising and production company and has won international recognition for his work. He is a past district governor of Rotary International and an Admiral in the Texas Navy. He has a star on the Texas Trail of Fame in Fort Worth. Both the US and Texas legislatures have recognized him for preserving Texas history.

He lives in Big Spring with his wife, Susan. They have two sons, two daughters-in-law and four grandsons.

All due paying members will receive the Zoom notification of the meeting on April 24, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Well, our meeting in October took on a Halloween spookiness! We tried to hold a Zoom meeting and for some reason it would not let me enter as the host of the meeting when I was the one who set up. So, we scheduled another one. During that meeting, my screen ghosted out (could barely see everyone) and then kicked me totally out and made another member the host. The ghost of Zoom had other ideas. We are going to reschedule for November. If you are a member, be on the lookout for email with details.
