Lighthouse Family Retreat

We strengthen families living through childhood cancer by offering restorative retreats and helpful resources.

Lighthouse Family Retreat is a faith-based non-profit that exists to strengthen every family living through childhood cancer. We host restorative retreats and develop helpful resources so that families and their support systems can find hope in God and help in their fight. Our flagship offering is a respite for families living through childhood cancer, who we call our Retreat Families. We serve th

em by organizing volunteers, called Family Partners, to provide a week of deep rest, relational connection, great laughter, and palpable kindness. Over the last 20 years, we have learned a thing or two from the families we serve. From podcasts to blog posts to activity books and devotionals, we create resources that we hope will encourage your family during this journey.

They came to Lighthouse in the middle of battling cancer. They left asking, “Who is this Jesus guy?” The Pathak family described their week as filled with “kindness, warmth, and care without expectations or boundaries.”

That’s the impact of a week to rest, reconnect, and simply be cared for. Already in 2026, 241 families across 22 retreats have experienced that gift because of you. And there’s more ahead.

Sometimes saying “yes” to serving changes more than we could ever expect.

For Doug and Jodi Sindelar, Lighthouse is about choosing to step into hard places with hope, loving others well, and experiencing the joy of serving together.

Sometimes, it's the little moments that leave the biggest impact.

A quiet prayer on the beach. A shared laugh over dinner. A hug at just the right time. A child who feels free to simply be a kid.

These moments may seem small, but they become the big memories families carry home long after retreat ends.

Sometimes the best things in life cannot be explained. They have to be experienced.

That is what Lighthouse has been for so many families and volunteers. It is more than a retreat. It is a place where hope is renewed, friendships are formed, and God meets people in unforgettable ways.

Some experiences are hard to describe until you've lived them.

Sarah beautifully captures what so many volunteers say after retreat. Serving is not something that leaves you empty. Somehow, you leave with your own cup overflowing.

One of the greatest gifts of serving together is watching the next generation discover the joy of putting others first.
