CORNISH FAMILY NAMI CENTER

NAMI Washington County Oregon is a non-profit organization that follows the NAMI mission: “To improve the lives of those affected by mental illness through education, support and advocacy!”
A lot of us prefer different terms other than “illness”; but we are here for you no matter how you choose to identify. We also want all Peers, family members and friends to share. B

e supportive, ask for support and/or questions, share experiences and photos. Let’s also try to have some fun and laughs! Our organization offers free support groups, classes and activities. As well as volunteer opportunities, such as helping with the annual NAMI Walk. We would love to give you a tour of our home. This house was given to NAMI Washington County by Ted and Linda Cornish in 2011. Ted and Linda Cornish have experienced mental health concerns in their own family. What a selfless act; they have invested time, energy and support to NAMI Washington County. Ted has passed away, this year, but Linda Cornish still supports NAMI Washington County. We are fortunate to have such a unique place to consistently provide a safe place for many NAMI Connections support groups, educational opportunities and activities. It is for people who we like to call peers. Our NAMI Affiliate is a place to find help for mental health concerns. We are uniquely different than most NAMI Affiliates. You can volunteer to help tend our very own garden. We would like to welcome you to our house, a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere to talk to others about mental health. Have coffee, tea or a conversation about what we offer at NAMI Washington County. We want you to know you are not alone. Mission Statement: “To improve the lives of those affected by mental illness through education, support and advocacy.” A lot of us prefer different terms other than “illness”; but we are here for you no matter how you choose to identify. There is no cost for the services we provide. Please feel free to drop by anytime during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Come on over to our Cornish Family NAMI Center and see what we have to offer.

Parents! Are you looking for support and connection?

Our new Parent Support Group starts THIS Wednesday, September 2nd!

This group is for any parents and caregivers. We all want what's best for our children. We all learn from sharing our successes and challenges and knowing we are not alone.

In the group, you will connect with other parents and learn how to support your child. It's led by NAMI-trained facilitators who have been there too.

We will meet first and third Wednesdays of the month, 10-11:30am - on Zoom

Join the group at bit.ly/namiparent

Pride might just be one month, but it's important to support the LGBTQ+ people in your life all year long.

Here are some ways you can support them, as well as the LGBTQ+ community in general:
🌈Trust that they know themselves best
🌈Educate yourself (and others) about q***r and trans identities
🌈Talk positively about LGBTQ+ people
🌈Advocate for LGBTQ+ equality and rights
🌈Don't rush them to make decisions about their identity or coming out
🌈Stand up against hate speech and discriminatory comments
🌈Respect their pronouns - and introduce yourself with your own pronouns

How else can we support the LGBTQ+ people in our lives? Let us know in the comments.
