A special training class was held at Edgecomb Eddy School on June 17th, 2026. Participating departments included Alna, Edgecomb Maine Fire Dept., Westport, Maine Volunteer Fire Department and Wiscasset Fire Department. Training was conducted with ground and roof ladders as well as Wiscasset's ladder truck, it was a productive evening. The Alna crew included 3 brother - sister teams: Emma and Edward, Austin and Kateleen along with Connor and Emily. Thanks to everyone who made the session safe, interesting and educational.

We are saddened to hear that Searsmont FD Assistant Chief Wayne Woodbury passed away on Sunday the 14th. Chief Woodbury was on the Robbins Lumber Mill fire and was injured in the explosion. We mourn the loss of a dedicated member of the Maine Fire Service and extend our condolences to his family and friends.

New rescue tools - AVFD has purchased new battery powered extrication tools which were placed on Truck 2, June 10th, 2026. The new spreaders and cutters replace the hydraulic tools that we had for the last 15 years. The new set allows our crews to go anywhere to access a trapped person without being limited by hoses and a pump system. Special thanks to Whitefield Fire for providing a crew to help remove the old system, the portable pump and tools will be used on one of their engines. This will help with mutual aid accident calls in north Alna / South Whitefield. Two training sessions have already been held with the new electric tools and another one is planned. Thanks to everyone who helped with this important upgrade.

Saying Goodbye to a Friend - Alna Firefighter Paul Crandall lost his battle with cancer earlier this year. Paul was a dedicated member of our team for 10 years and had been a firefighter in Marion, South Carolina prior to moving to Maine. He served his country in a number of ways including the U.S. Coast Guard for 6 years and working with NASA to design a cameras to photograph landing sites on the moon. His funeral will be held at Alna VFD on Friday, June 5th starting at 09:30 hours with the Last Call and caisson ceremony at the fire station followed by a 10:00 am graveside service at the Alna Cemetery on Rt 218. Paul was a valued member, we will miss his smile, his dedication to the fire service and never-ending stream of ideas. Thank You Paul. Rest Well Brother, we have the watch from here.

Nice work! The May 27th business meeting ended early so our crew went right to washing the trucks. Kateleen, Emily, Connor and Bret are shown working on T3. Thanks to everyone that helped get the rigs ready for upcoming events.
