As fairgrounds across the state of Kansas have undergone transformation, the general trend has been towards facilities that operate year around for multipurpose use and not just to host a fair or a livestock show.
When we built KanEquip Arena and renovated the other buildings, it was with that in mind. That the Fairgrounds could be a community platform for so many things to benefit Wabaunsee County.
A year ago a cell phone ping study was done on the grounds, with more than 15,000 pings occurring every year! We annually host concerts, family reunions, fundraisers, funerals, weddings, FFA judging, livestock shows and sales, educational events, dances, graduations, meetings, a myriad of 4-H events, bike rides, bridal showers and more. In fact, we have perused the calendar and found the grounds to be in use nearly 300 days a year all told!
Alma Area Foundation Match Day will be in KanEquip Arena on Tuesday, with online giving tomorrow. Should that event be as successful as last year, the Arena will have hosted fundraising and benefit events that have returned over $500,000 for local groups and projects in the last year alone, with well over $1,200,000 since being built. That is quite remarkable for a little fairgrounds and falls exactly in line with the hopes of how the facility could be utilized for the County's benefit.
