🔥 ALMA FIRE UPDATE & A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR FIRST RESPONDERS 🔥

Tonight, our community witnessed an incredible response as firefighters and first responders battled a fire that burned more than 600 acres in and around the Alma area.

On behalf of the City of Alma, I want to express our sincere gratitude to our neighboring fire departments who responded to assist, Ellis County emergency personnel, law enforcement, the Red Cross, our community churches, and every first responder who answered the call.

A fire of this magnitude requires tremendous coordination, manpower, equipment, and sacrifice. Departments and personnel from outside our immediate community came when we needed them, working alongside one another for hours to protect lives, homes, property, and livestock.

To every firefighter and first responder who stood between this fire and our community tonight: THANK YOU. We are incredibly grateful for your courage, your service, and your willingness to answer the call…not only for your own communities, but for ours as well.

⚠️ PLEASE REMAIN ALERT TONIGHT AND OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS.

Even though the immediate threat may have passed, hotspots can remain and fires can rekindle. Residents and landowners in and around the affected area should continue watching their property for smoke, glowing areas, or any other signs of fire.

If it is safe and practical to do so, please leave gates in the affected area accessible/unlocked so firefighters and emergency personnel can quickly gain access to property if a hotspot is identified or the fire rekindles. Please make sure livestock remain secure.

If you see smoke or believe a fire has rekindled, call 911 immediately. Do not put yourself in danger attempting to fight it yourself.

Tonight was also a powerful reminder of what neighboring communities do for one another when it matters most. To every neighboring fire department that sent personnel and equipment, and to Ellis County Emergency Management and all of the county personnel who helped coordinate and support this response…..Alma thanks you.

Please continue watching out for your neighbors, remain vigilant, and keep all of these first responders and their families in your prayers tonight.

We are grateful beyond words for everyone who answered the call. ❤️🚒🙏

Local Ellis County Fire Departments are working a large grass fire in the Ennis area off Farm To Market Road 85. Ennis Police Department, The Ellis County Sheriff's Office, and Dept. of Public Safety are in the process of evacuating homes along FM 85, Walker Creek Road, Zmolek Road, and Mach Road. The Cowboy Church in Alma has opened their doors to those who were asked to evacuated. Please avoid the area and monitor your local media outlets for updates.

Last night was a great evening for the City of Alma! 💙

During our City Council meeting, we had the privilege of officially swearing in Chief Hawkins as Chief of Police. Please join me in congratulating Chief Hawkins as he continues to lead and serve our community!

Chief Hawkins also recognized several members of the Alma Police Department for their well-earned promotions:

👮 Johnathan Raden – Administration Lieutenant (not pictured)
👮 Shaun Lucas – Patrol Operations Lieutenant
👮 Issac Balderas – Patrol Sergeant

Congratulations to each of these officers! We appreciate your commitment to the City of Alma.

Council also approved moving forward with work to widen a section of Old Alma Road South. This is another important investment in our city's infrastructure and something we are excited to see get underway.

It is always encouraging to see progress happening in our small community!

Congratulations again to Chief Hawkins and our newly promoted officers, and thank you to everyone who continues to serve and invest in the City of Alma! 💙
