The Allyn Historic Church Board would like to wish everyone a blessed Easter celebration. Spring in the PNW has always been fascinating; watching everything come alive again with new green growth and blooms.
Recently a group of Evergreen Garden Club and interested Allyn volunteers met for lunch and discussed plans to beautify our Allyn properties, especially the triangle at the beginning of town. The local garden club was looking into a grant, but it was not possible for this coming year. With some inspiration while driving through Old Town Silverdale recently and seeing their Spring display of daffodils, it was decided that we could do that also for next Spring. We could start at the triangle and plant across the top of the park, around the Allyn Historic Church and down to the waterfront. It would really set the stage for our Historic District. You will be hearing more when we ask for help planting them in the Fall. Also discussed at our recent meeting was having a Plant Sale at the Historic Church this Fall, so look forward to more information on that.
Please mark your calendars for the first upcoming Allyn Community work party! We have two main projects planned. The planter in front of the Port of Allyn needs cleaning out in preparation for the flowers that will be planted in May. Also, many cement pots placed along Highway 3 need to be weeded and prepared for planting. Would you, your family or business like to adopt a pot for the season? I know a few businesses already have one that they care for during the warm and dry summer days. Bring your gloves and tools and meet at the Port of Allyn building at 9:00 AM on Saturday, April 25th, we look forward to seeing you…many hands make the work go quickly and easily.
Also we need a few guys to help with a project at the Oyster House in the Port of Allyn parking lot.
Barry Betsinger and Dan Orchard have been working hard to get the interior of the building ready to put up sheetrock. They need some help cleaning out old wood and some windows and putting them into the shed nearby. With some young muscle, it won’t take long, can you help?

With the Valentine’s season of love here, our little Allyn Historic Church is always available for your special events. Although our first love is weddings (have you seen how sweet our chapel is lately?), we can also accommodate meetings, classes, family gatherings, art shows, etc. This year we will be looking into new ways to get the word out to more local and regional areas in Washington. Do you know someone planning a wedding this year? Are you a wedding planner and want to include our information? We are also in need of people available to officiate for weddings in our church. Please contact Terry Fischer at 360-801-2570 to be added to our list.

Were you married in the Allyn Historic Church? We would love to include your photo on our page. Please text me your photos and information and we will make that happen!

Last but not least, our Historic Church Board needs you! We have several vacancies to fill this year. Please feel free to stop in at one of our meetings and see what we do and join the fun. Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 11:00AM in the church basement meeting room. Positions needing to be filled include: V.P., Treasurer, Public Relations support person, Fundraiser Chairman and possibly Event Coordinator.

Do you want to get involved in the many community activities here in Allyn? Our board enjoys working with and coordinating local activities with the Allyn Community Association (ACA) and the Allyn Birthday Club. We really appreciate our many local volunteers; we see what you do for our community like planting and maintaining flowers, baking cookies for our events, stepping up with musical talent or just muscle to put the stage up. We love you all!!

Thank you all for supporting our efforts to promote our church venue and the many contributions you have made to help maintain and keep our historic community church available to us all. A Community Invitation:

Hello Allyn Birthday Club,
Our January meeting will be held at 2 Margaritas restaurant on Wednesday the 21st at 12 noon. There will be a guest speaker, Violet Luce, president of Evergreen Garden Club. She will speak to us about a subject near and dear to our hearts, the beautification of an area to be picked in Allyn. A few extra guests from the area will be invited to join us also. The Garden Club has the ability to apply for a grant but wants to know that there are people here in the Allyn area that would like to be involved in the project. We would like to know what area you would like to see improved? Who will be willing to do the work and who could join in maintaining it after it is completed?
If this sparks your interest, please join us for lunch and talk about your love for our community and your concerns.
See you on Wednesday!

Ready or not, here comes another new year! Welcome to 2026, have you set new goals? Our Historic Church board will do just that at our first meeting on Monday January 12th at 11: 00-12:00 AM. You are invited to stop by and contribute your voice and just an hour of your time on the second Monday of each month so that we may reach our future goals of lovingly maintaining our beautiful little Allyn Historic Church for future generations to enjoy.

One of my goals this year is practicing gratitude for small everyday moments of joy! I hope you will join me and take a second to reflect on your day, on the loved ones and community around you and on the opportunities and privileges in your life.

Our Historic Church experienced the love and beautiful voices of the community in December at our annual Christmas Sing-A-Long. A great time was had by all who ventured out on a cold and wet evening to our warm and cozy chapel and enjoyed the treats provided downstairs afterwards.

Do you know of a friend or family member planning a wedding this year? Our little Allyn Historic Church could be the perfect spot for making those memories. Our church coordinator would be happy to give you a tour of our facilities and share our rental information.

It’s the last month of 2025 and we want to share some of the things we’ve accomplished this year. There are always challenges to meet the mission of our small group. We get done each year that which appears on our plate, it seems, and would like to say how much we appreciate it when members of the community step up and offer help.

This past year we had a new bell rope made and hung thanks to Richard Taylor, Rain Forest Gutters. We had a successful Open House for Allyn Days this summer. The Fire Marshall helped us bring our church up to code as we completed all his recommendations. And with the help of Cloise & Mike Roofers, our bell tower was waterproofed, which addressed the moisture problem in the narthex. In the spring we will again plan to get the sink holes repaired in front of the church.

The board put a great deal of effort into recruitment of board members (which we still need). Our finances are stable because of our loyal rental groups that regularly meet in the church. We hope to attract more weddings and local groups that could use our facilities. Remember, if you have questions for the Allyn Historic Church, our contact person is Terry Fischer, #360-801-2570. Online you can reach us at [email protected].

Just heard that the church will be hosting the Annual Allyn Christmas Sing-A-Long on Monday, December 22nd from 6-8 where it’s warm and dry. Song books will be provided.

Lastly, a bit of sad news, we recently lost another great friend of our little historic church, Mary Lindsey. She was a wonderful writer and lover of all things historical. I remember her best as a long standing member of the Allyn Birthday Club and one of the original supporters of the Allyn Historic Church. A remembrance will be held at the church here, where she and her husband were married, around the Allyn Days celebration and her families annual reunion. Watch for more information to come. Rest in peace dear friend.

We could not keep the Allyn Historic Church functioning without the donations and labor from you, our neighbors and friends in the community. Thank you so very much and may you have a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year!

Christmas Caroling in Allyn!!

I hope everyone is enjoying the change in seasons, the Fall colors are amazing this year! We recently received a donation in memory of a special friend of our little Historic Church, Michael O’Sullivan, who passed in 2016. He was a huge force in the renovation of the little church and will always live in our hearts.
Our little town is rich in history. Just drive down Hwy 3 and you’ll see some of the oldest properties. There’s the church, of course, and the Oyster House, but did you know that Michael O’Sullivan’s log house on Hwy 3 is where Elton Cleveland, a local historian lived? And then there was the old barn on the Anderson property in Lakeland Village, till it fell down a few years back. Many more landmarks I’m sure, just ask around.
With this year winding down, we have some special people to thank. You may have noticed the Cloise & Mike Roofers truck at the church recently. Chris came out and water sealed our steeple, and the rains came. We will still have to replace some wood up there, but it is protected for now. Thank you so much!
Our little church has had a mystery wreath maker through the years, I think she has returned, as there is a new seasonal wreath decorating our door. Beautiful! Last but not least, the flowers around the church were lovingly planted and maintained by Debbie Leslie this entire season. You have made our little historic church and Allyn a little more bright and beautiful. Thank you all for setting such a great example of what community spirit is all about. I just heard that the Allyn Christmas Sing-A-Long will be held in the Allyn Waterfront Gazebo this year. Lots of room for everyone, young & wiser, watch for the date and time to be announced.
This month our church board meets on the second Monday at 11:00 AM in the church basement. Come to check us out before joining or just to visit! We would love to see you there!

There is something magical about this time of year, when Autumn arrives on the WA Peninsula. So grab a sweater and go outside and enjoy the cool crisp air, the glowing leaves and a good walk before the rains begin.

Here is a little more of our history:
In 1976 when the Allyn School building burned down, the Baptists shared the Allyn Historic Church with the Episcopalians until they moved into their own building in August, 1978.
The St. Hugh of Lincoln congregation, under the leadership of Reverend Robin Moore, moved into a new church in the summer of 1995. Several groups expressed an interest in acquiring the historic church and there was some question as to the legality of returning it to the Allyn Community Church Organization since there was no longer a continuous incorporated body identifiable with the original group to whom the deed was to revert. President Leonard Peterson called a meeting of former and interested parties to discuss the impending sale. Tammy (Anderson) Zeck contacted a lawyer asking the group be recognized as an active organization, enclosing deeds and bylaws. In 1995, the Church Organization was incorporated as a non-profit group. On January 18, 1996, the Episcopalian Diocese of Olympia deeded over the church to the Allyn Community Church Organization.

We thank all of you who have made a donation for our various projects this year and encourage others to send a donation to the Allyn Historic Church, P.O. 1245, Allyn WA 98524.
The Allyn Historic Church is the perfect venue for your weddings and memorial services upstairs and the downstairs meeting room with kitchen is available for a small reception, Birthday Party, or Paint and Sip class!

Allyn Historic Church, a treasured landmark since 1909, is nestled along State Highway 3. This charming white church was originally built as a Congregational Church under the sponsorship of a Tacoma congregation. Although it eventually ceased functioning in its original role, it continued to serve the community as a Sunday school and meeting place under local leadership. And it has remained a landmark on Puget Sound Navigational Maps ever since! Through wars, economic hardship, abandonment, and revival; the Allyn Historic Church has endured thanks to the dedication of residents past and present.
The Church is a beautiful and reasonably priced venue for rent for weddings, christenings, anniversaries, life celebrations, memorials, wedding showers, baby showers, painting parties, art shows, charitable fund events, meetings and many more! Call Terry Fischer at 360-801-2570 for questions on scheduling events and tours.
