Announcing Winter Programs at Commonwheels!

Want to learn the basics of maintenance? Sew your own bike bag? Just get your bike fixed up? We have events for you!

CommonWheels is running two winter programs: Winter Open Shop and Workshops.

Workshops are made possible through a new winter partnership with FabVille, a program of Artisans Asylum based in Somerville High School. We’ll have a monthly “ABCs of Bike Maintenance” class covering the basics that you need to know to keep your bike running safely. We’ll also have a specialty workshop every month, where you can learn from experts about specific bike skills.

Winter Rider Safety: Wednesday, January 21, 5:30-7:30pm
ABCs of Bike Maintenance: Wednesday, January 28, 5:30-7:30pm
Fix a Flat, True a Wheel: Monday, February 9, 5:30-7:30pm
ABCs of Bike Maintenance: Monday, February 23, 5:30-7:30pm
Sewing Workshop: Make Your Own Bike Bag!: Monday, March 9, 5:30-7:30pm

Winter Open Shop is just like our classic Open Shop, but we sure won’t be outdoors! Instead, we’ll be set up at Artisans Asylum. Bring your bike and learn how to fix specific problems or take care of it in the winter with guidance from Commonwheels staff and volunteers. Open Shop does not require RSVP.

Announcement!! We're giving away 2 free concert tickets - all you have to do is support CW!

Our deepest, most heartfelt thanks to our amazing CommonWheels community. Our programs and general vibes could not happen without the support we receive from our staff, volunteers, and patrons!

As a thank you, we are giving away 2 free tickets to a concert. To enter the sweepstakes, just donate a minimum of $10 dollars. For every $10 towards your donation, you will earn an entry to our ticket sweepstakes. For example, a $35 dollar donation would be 3 entries.

Help support the CommonWheels mission AND be entered into a sweepstakes for free concert tickets! And we extended the giving deadline to January 4th.

The The Allston Rat Race by CommonWheels 2025 is in a couple of days! Pre-purchase your tickets or come swing by any time during the day!

Our volunteers spent Wednesday prepping for the event. Our teeshirts are printed (thank you SweetTree Ink) with our latest logo (designed by Jacob Licht!).

Can't wait to see you out there!

Thank you to our entire community for helping us raise over $2000 in November so far! Honestly, we're blow away. But this is less than half of our $5K goal! We know this is ambitious of us, but we truly believe in our mission (which is why the CW Board already pledged $1K). Can we count on you this giving season?

Also, stay tuned for some winter Open Shops and our Hot Cocoa ride in the New Year!

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!! Our CommonWheels Board is matching a $1K of donations given in the month of November! We believe in our mission and are pushing for our most aggressive fundraising goal yet! We are calling on our community to help us raise $5000 by the end of the year!

This is our goal through the end of 2023 and will really help set CommonWheels up for success in 2024. Every dollar raised goes directly to pay our outstanding staff!

CommonWheels is dedicated to bringing bike repair and commuter resilience to everyone by staying friendly, open, and free. However, as a non-profit, we need donations to continue the work that we do. If you believe in our work, or have been helped at one of our events, please consider sending us donations! It helps not only us, but future cyclists that we may help.

The Allston Rat Race is officially less than a month away! This event is dog-friendly, kid-friendly, and a great way to spend a day riding bikes! Enjoy this compilation sizzle reel from last year's ride. Folks... I put most of this video at 4x speed to try and show you all of the cool stuff we did last year and I still had to make cuts!!

Due to air quality advisory of "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" from MA Department of Environmental Protection, we have cancelled Open Shop for 7/1 for the safety of our participants and staff. Please stay healthy and safe and we'll see you soon!
