Not an overly glamorous photo, but two coops are now ready for the lower temperatures tonight! This was the first one I finished up.

So what does ready mean? Eventually, all of the wooden coops will get reflective insulation installed, but since this is a brief cold snap, ready for now means the coop has been dusted, fresh pine shavings put down, heat panels tested and installed, the thermostat/hygrometer battery replaced and everything configured, and the camera installed and tested.

Heat is a fairly debated subject in the chicken world and there are risks to using a heat source in a coop full of pine shavings and chickens who kick up a good bit of dust. These radiant heat panels are designed for chicken coops but they still make me a bit nervous. Which is why there's a camera and a device to alert me to any sudden temperature changes. I'd rather have a few extra ways to keep an eye on things!

Just a few more coops to go!! But Patrick and Izzy and Beaky and Tiny are all set for tonight!

I've been absolutely terrible at taking photos the last couple of weeks, but I'm finally feeling a good bit better!

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day here at RoR and luckily Bird is coming to give us a hand. We need to get heat panels installed in all the coops before it gets cold Saturday night.

Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights are all forecasted to be in the 30s! Thankfully temperatures should warm back up after that which will give us a little more time to get all the coops fully insulated for winter.

Hopefully I'll remember to actually take some photos as we work tomorrow so I have something to share with you all!

I don't post pictures often but we've gained quite a few new followers lately so I figured it's time for a reintroduction!

My name is Lorna and I'm the founder of Roosters of Ragnarok, a microsanctuary dedicated to providing chickens in need with a safe, secure, and loving home. We promote compassion through advocacy and education.

On top of that, I work for a veterinary software company as part of the Product Operations team and am lucky enough to work from home. Which really makes this a lot easier.

I first really met chickens in 2020 and started rescuing in 2021. I didn't officially found the sanctuary until I moved into my very first house in Alloway in February of 2023.

A lot has changed in the six years I've been involved in the chicken world. I've learnt a lot, made mistakes, learnt from those mistakes and continue to strive to make this sanctuary a safe place for all. Our goal with social media is simple. I want to share the stories of our residents with as many people as possible. I hope to give you little glimpses into who I see here at the sanctuary, what they've been through, and who each individual is.

This is Charlie. Charlie is one of our Kaporos survivors who had her wing amputated a couple of weeks ago. She's a lovely little lady (I think!) who explores the world a little differently than her friends.

While the others tend to dive headfirst into everything in a chaotic ball of feathers, crashing into things and each other along the way, Charlie prefers to take a moment to observe. She watches what's happening around her before deciding what she's going to do.

She also has a very quiet little voice. Her peeps and chirps are much softer than those of her feathered friends.

I wish everyone could meet Charlie and her little feathered family. I wish everyone could see what we get to see every day. Each of them is an individual, with their own personality, their own preferences and their own way of interacting with the world.

Another old favorite today. Still slowly on the mend but today has been a rough one and I am tired.

With all the rain, wind, possible flooding and thunderstorms forecast for tomorrow there were a few things we needed to get done regardless of how I was feeling. Coops are cleaned and refreshed and thank goodness for a Tractor Supply free same day delivery reward! Extra pine shavings and pine pellets are now here and ready in case the weather gets messy.

Hoping for a safe and uneventful day for everyone tomorrow.
