SHREDDING EVENT FIGHTS HUNGER: It was a busy day at the Stark County Federal Credit Union on Saturday morning as the Stark County Hunger Task Force once again held it's annual shredding day which collected food and donations for our Alliance Community Pantry.
It was busy nonstop for nearly three hours as people dropped off their old paperwork to be shredded, and freely made food and financial donations that will support our Pantry. In the three-plus hours it was held, $683 and more than 65 pounds of food were collected
Theresa Donato from the Task Force board of directors, coordinated the event, and loyal, friendly employees of the Federal Credit Union helped out all morning gathering documents to be shredded from people driving through. Go Shred, a secure document shredding company of New Philadelphia, did the shredding.
Alliance Pantry members Jim Perone and Mike Patterson were there to accept the donated food.
Events such as this certainly helps support the Task Force's mission of fighting hunger in Stark County by providing financial, logistic, strategic, and food support to their network of local pantries.

CONNECTING WITH MOUNT: Our Pantry manager Debbie Skubiak, and our board secretary Chris Schade hung out on the Mount Union campus for a couple hours Friday afternoon meeting Mount Union students and introducing them to our Pantry.
The event organized by Abby Schroeder, director of the Regula Center, was to introduce students to the many opportunities available to them through community engagement, service, volunteering, internships, and civic involvement throughout the academic year.
It was also a great opportunity for us to raise awareness about our Pantry and to recruit volunteers, promote ways to service, and to just start connecting with the students.
Debbie and Chris weren't terribly busy but they did have a few students stop to show interest in volunteering. We have always appreciated and valued our close relationship with Mount Union.

POP-UP PANTRY WAS A HIT: It was another super busy day at Glamorgan Castle on Wednesday as Akron-Canton Food Bank made its final Pop-Up Pantry stop for the summer. More than 150 Alliance area residence lined up to get food today which means well more than 500 people picked up food in the three months the pop-up pantry was held.
Todd Schlereth coordinated the event for the food bank, and Kristy Woodford once again organized the loyal volunteers from Alliance schools, and even had her husband Matt, daughter Kelly, and granddaughter Shia helping out today.
Alliance school personnel covered the Pop-Up Pantry the first two months, but since school is now in session, volunteers from Alliance Community Pantry were needed. Eager to help out were Debbie Skubiak, pantry manager, and Rich Burden, Sebastian Schubert, Missy Miller, Jan Horning and Kim Cully.
It was just one more way we could serve the community, and we give great thanks to school personnel who made it work this summer.

SHREDDING DAY SATURDAY: Once again the Stark County Hunger Task Force has scheduled their annual shredding day to help residents get rid of unwanted paperwork, while at the same time supporting our Alliance Community Pantry.
The Stark County Federal Credit Union will host the event Saturday, Aug. 29, from 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Residence may dispose of paperwork free of charge but are encouraged to make a donation of food or cash to support the Alliance Community Pantry. The credit union is located at 1281 S. Sawburg Ave.
Task force people will be on hand to help gather up items to be shredded as well as volunteers from the Alliance Pantry. Last year the event brought in donations of more than 50 pounds of food and nearly $900.
The event is organized by the Task Force executive director Stephanie Sweany. Events such as this certainly supports the Task Force's mission of fighting hunger in Stark County by providing financial, logistic, strategic, and food support to their network of local food pantries.

POP-UP PANTRY'S LAST STOP: The Pop-Up Pantry from the Akron-Canton Food Bank will make its file stop in Alliance this summer when it arrives Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.. The first two stops in June and July we're a big hit with more than 170 people stopping by each time to get food.
August will be a little different with school in session. The Pop-Up Pantry will still be parked at Glamorgan Castle but school administrators, teachers and students won't be the only ones handing out food because school is back in session. A few Alliance Pantry volunteers will certainly be helping out.
The goal of the the summer program was intended to help families with school-age children who would be missing their school lunches during the summer month.
As usual, everyone and anyone is invited to line up to get food assistance, not just those with kids in school.

VOLUNTEER ON MONDAY: For anyone who wants to help make a difference in the community, our Pantry is a great place to volunteer. Recently we've been a little short on volunteers on Monday so if anybody's interested just show up and we will get you registered, or call the Pantry at 330-680-8130 and leave a message.
It's a fun and friendly place to help out, and on Mondays Debbie Skubiak, our Pantry manager, oversees the operation.

GENEROUS PARADE GOERS: First Christian Church's float in the Carnation Festival Parade was once again a huge benefit for the Alliance Community Pantry.
The float, designed by Toni and Sherrie DiDonato, seen here, and pulled by Pastor Steve Smithers, was accompanied by church members who walked along the parade route collecting donations for the Pantry.
At the end, they collected 63 pounds of food and $865. The pantry thanks First Christian Church and all the parade goers for their continued support!

FLOAT COLLECTING FOR PANTRY: As they have since we opened 16 years ago, First Christian Church will once again have a float in the Carnation Festival Parade with a goal of collecting food and cash donations for the Alliance Community Pantry.
Tony and Sherrie DiDonato designed and created the float themselves this year and Pastor Steve Smythers will pull the float. Keep an eye out for First Christian folks walking beside the float collecting donations and food items along the route.
In past years, parade goers have been very generous and last year First Christian collected more than $800 and almost 100 pounds of food.
The pantry is indebted to all the churches, organizations, businesses and individuals in town for their continued support.
