The Knight Museum & Sandhills Center invites the public to a special evening program exploring the history and legacy of one of Nebraska's most influential ranching operations.
On Thursday, June 25, at 5:30 p.m., ranch historian and Spade Ranch expert Steve Cleveland will present a 30-minute program highlighting the people, places, and stories that helped shape the legendary Spade Ranch and its impact on the Sandhills region.

Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session with Cleveland and continue exploring the museum's newly installed Spade Ranch interpretive panel series.

This program marks the first of three presentations scheduled throughout the summer. Additional programs featuring Steve Cleveland will be held in July and August, each offering visitors an opportunity to delve deeper into the stories, people, and history connected to the Spade Ranch.

The exhibit examines the history of the Spade Ranch, life on the ranch, notable individuals connected to its operation, and the lasting influence the ranch had on western Nebraska. Through historic photographs, maps, and interpretive content, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of this important chapter of regional history.

The program will be held at the Knight Museum & Sandhills Center, 908 Yellowstone Avenue in Alliance, and is open to the public.

For additional information, contact the Knight Museum & Sandhills Center at 308-762-2384.

πŸŽ‰ Congratulations, Toni, on this outstanding achievement! πŸŽ‰

On behalf of the Alliance Chamber of Commerce, congratulations to Toni on being recognized as Employee of the Month at Alliance BBGH! Thank you for your contributions to your workplace and our community. We wish you continued success and are proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition.

Toni Girard, Registered Respiratory Therapist, is BBGH's Employee of the Month for June! Congratulations, Toni! Thank you for the compassionate and excellent care you provide to our patients and teams!

Here is her nomination: "On January 22, 2026 I was brought into the emergency room with breathing difficulties. It was determined I had very high levels of carbon dioxide which was not leaving my system. I was given two choices: wear a BiPAP or be intubated. Many people over many years have tried to get me to wear a BiPAP. Due to my claustrophobia, I have always been unable to do so until Toni came into the picture. She held my hand and literally walked me off the cliff. I am now one month into successfully wearing my ASV machine. This is why I recommend Toni for Employee of the Month.”

Thank you to Sean Busch for recognizing Toni and allowing BBGH to share his nomination.

Fireworks Ban Approved Due to Fire Danger

At its June 16, 2026 meeting, the Alliance City Council voted to prohibit the sale and discharge of fireworks within the city limits due to ongoing drought conditions and elevated fire danger.

The decision was made out of concern for public safety and the significant fire risk currently facing our community. Dry conditions, high temperatures, and wind can quickly turn a small fireworks-related incident into a large and dangerous fire.

The Alliance Police Department would like to remind residents that this ordinance will be actively enforced. Violation of the fireworks ban may result in a citation carrying a fine of up to $1,000.00. Individuals who refuse to comply or who repeatedly violate the ordinance may be subject to custodial arrest and confiscation of fireworks.

We understand that fireworks are a longstanding Fourth of July tradition, but current conditions require everyone to do their part to protect lives, property, and our community. We appreciate your cooperation and ask that you help us keep Alliance safe during this period of elevated fire danger.

Please note that the decision regarding the City's public fireworks display on July 4th has not yet been made. Any permit for a public fireworks display will be evaluated by the Fire Chief based on current weather conditions, fuel moisture levels, fire danger, and an overall assessment of public safety risks at that time. While everyone hopes the community display can proceed as planned, public safety will remain the primary consideration in making that determination.

This is not a symbolic ban and it is not a suggestion. The current fire danger is real, and the ordinance will be enforced accordingly. We ask for your cooperation in helping prevent a potentially devastating fire and ensuring a safe Independence Day for everyone in our community.
