This May, DAR is honored to celebrate National Historic Preservation Month. Historic preservation is a cornerstone of DARs mission and a vital part of preserving America’s story. Across the country, DAR members work year-round to restore historic sites, preserve archival treasures, and ensure the legacy of our Founding generation endures for future generations.

We are excited to spotlight a recent project to stabilize and restore an original 1819 Binns engraving of the Declaration of Independence for display in the DAR Museum’s latest exhibition, Revolution in Their Words. The Jane Bain Chapter celebrated our 110th Anniversary on Saturday! The day was jam-packed with our last meeting of the year, a fabulous potluck lunch, displays of our scrapbooks going back 30+ years, a raffle, and distribution of member gifts and committee chair gifts! On display we had our America250 Patriot Tree with an ornament for each member with their name on the back and their primary patriot on the front. Members enjoyed searching the tree for their patriot and browsing through the scrapbooks on display.

We also presented certificates of appreciation to Connie and Cheri. Our Historian and VIS Chair, Kim, showed us a glimpse of her work from the past year in terms of scanning and preserving the historical records including multiple chapter scrapbooks, documents, yearbooks, and more.

Last, but not least, we were honored to present THREE Excellence in Historic Preservation Medals! The first was to our member and past Historian, Faye, for her outstanding work in compiling chapter records. (She was unable to attend, but will be presented her medal this month.)

Our final two Excellence in Historical Preservation Awards were presented to Frank and Michal Barrett. Frank is a member of the Mahoning Valley Sons of the American Revolution, and Michal is Jane Bain Chapter's Chaplain, and the Committee Chair for Service to America, Finance, Sunshine, and Wreaths Across America. This dynamic duo works tirelessly for their chapters, as well as the Haines House - Alliance Area Preservation Society as docents; speakers on the Underground Railroad in the Alliance Area, the Civil War Veterans buried at Quaker Hill and the Alliance City Cemetery; and volunteer as tour guides for school groups, and much more!

Many thanks to all of our Jane Bain Chapter members! And our thanks to the 110th Anniversary Committee and to Robin for hosting our celebration!

The deadline for the Revolutionary War Veterans Graves Project has been extended to May 25, 2026 (Memorial Day).

Across Ohio, communities are helping uncover and honor the final resting places of those who served during the American Revolution.
