Thank you to our members Michal and Connie who represented Jane Bain Chapter at the recent dedication of the new monument memorial in East Liverpool, Ohio. The monument was dedicated by the Mahoning Valley Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution for 162 Revolutionary War Patriots who are buried in Columbiana County. What a beautiful memorial!

"At 3:00 pm, Sunday, August 23, 2026, the Sons of the American Revolution will host a ceremony to honor Stark County native and Revolutionary War veteran Peter Wise with the dedication of a memorial marker at his grave in Marlboro Cemetery in Alliance, Ohio. The ceremony will feature a presentation of colors by the SAR State Color Guard with rifles (all dressed in Revolutionary War period uniforms).

Members of the Jane Bain Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution will join the SAR in honoring this patriot.

The public is invited to attend this colorful and dignified tribute to one of America’s first veterans. For additional information or directions contact Gary Martzolf, John Stark Chapter Grave Marking Chairman, at (330) 327-7869.

I'm late on posting this, but still it's important to recognize! Happy (belated) Birthday to one of the four founders of DAR, Eugenia Washington. According to "Women of Vision" by Noel-Marie Fletcher, Miss Eugie was the great-granddaughter of Col. Samuel Washington, the younger brother of George Washington, making her his great-grandniece. Col. Washington served with the Virginia forces during the Revolution but unfortunately passed away from "a respiratory ailment at age 46 in 1781 only three weeks before the victory...at Yorktown, VA." Miss Eugie lived through the Civil War, and at one point she and her father tried to flee an oncoming battle close to their home, and they both ended up stranded on the battlefield itself! "Lying on that dreadful field, she witnessed the whole battle and saw brigade after brigade broken or wiped out in the fierce charges." That experience never left her. Today, our Chapter Regent, Deb, and Historian, Kim visited with member, Faye. Faye has not been able to attend meetings in quite a while, and she could not attend our 110th Anniversary Picnic in May, where she was awarded the DAR Excellence in Historic Preservation Award for her thorough and invaluable efforts in the historic preservation of chapter records during her terms as Recording Secretary and Historian. Deb and Kim presented the Excellence in Historic Preservation Award to her today, and read the words we spoke at the May meeting so she could hear what was said to the chapter. She showed us work she has done for other organizations in the area compiling records and news articles! It was awesome to get to talk with her, and share our appreciation for her work!
