The calendar still says it's summer and so does the mercury -- the KAB Recycling Center will close at 1 o'clock this afternoon (Friday, Aug. 28) due to the heat.

Proofreading is tricky at best. Multiple sets of eyes can misread the same boo-boo.
Thanks, Deb. That was a good catch.
The Entry for the Flea Market should have read Buy, not But.
I will try and do better with proofreading, butt it's difficult.

Today, I would like to look and the term " Flea Market".
According to Wikipedia, Flea Market originated in Paris in the mid 19th century and comes from the French phrase "marche' aux puces" meaning Market of Fleas.
Apparently, Napoleon III forcibly removed those selling on the streets. This was a diehard group. They relocated to the north of Paris, thus the term "Flee Market" might have been used.
The term "Flea Market " has prevailed.
Side note: Siphonaptera is French for "wingless bloodsuckers". I get the heebies thinking about it.

Flea Market/ Get Rid of Your Junk Day
We have had quite a bit of positive input on KAB hosting a buy/sell/ trade/give away day.
We have tentatively set a date of September 26, 2026. Hours will be 10am to 5pm. Location will be on the empty lot north of the recycling center off of 2nd St. between Chyenne and Laramie.
We will be limiting the number of participants to 20 just to get the feel for this kind of day.
Cost per participants will be $20.00. Participants will need supply their own table and chairs with a table size of 4’x8’ maximum. Paid registrations will be accepted until September 20, 2026 or until spots are full.
Participants will be responsible for removing any property of theirs that has not moved.
This could be the start of a beautiful friendship.

Keep Alliance Beautiful Executive Director John E. Weare stands with Henessy, Issabella and Eri from the Pine Ridge Corps with their new KAB t-shirts. The young ladies put in several hours last weekend, first at Chadron Saturday helping with their monthly recycling collection then on Sunday at the KAB Recycling Center. We always value their help as they assist KAB crew member Mary Meier. Now these intrepid volunteers can represent our KAB affiliate with their new threads.
