It’s always exciting to find old cat show catalogs! We have just purchased this 1911 catalog of the Pacific Cat Club show, produced by an ACA club, held in San Francisco. Listings of the ACA registered cats, mostly Persians, may fill in some dead ends in pedigree databases.

We have added a display case of some of our favorite figurines. Centerpiece is P***Y, a very rare Royal Doulton (HN0018) piece issued between 1913 and 1938.

PERSIAN NEWS was a fabulous historical breed magazine published during the 1990s by Kelly Tanner, and later by Colleen Power, I believe. With deep appreciation and thanks to Gary Schleicher, who is currently scanning the copies of this magazine owned by the CFA Foundation, we are preserving the rich history found in its pages. We are, however, missing a few issues that would make our collection complete. If anyone has these available, we’d really appreciate you sharing them with us.

The Feline Historical Museum may have been closed for a while, but that doesn't mean that we stopped searching for historical artifacts. Our most recent find is this 12" high copper trophy from the Boston Cat Club, engraved with the names of Best Kitten in Show for the years 1916 until 1932.

Among the names engraved is Greenwich Peggoty, 1920 - born June 27, 1919, (CFF 35) a famous prize-winning Chinchilla Longhair (Persian) in the early 1920s. Bred and owned by Mrs. F.Y. Mathis, this feline was a prominent competitor at early American shows. His sire was Romeo Ard Patsy (CFF 34) and his dam was Greenwich Grey Mist (CFA 3025).

A touching celebration of life was held in Florida today for former CFA Foundation President Don Williams. His children presented the Foundation with a photo of Don and one of his large belt buckles for which he was so well known.

CFA presented Don's children with the CFA Medal of honor awarded to Don in February.

It was wonderful to see a good number of cat fancy folks from across North America in attendance.

Thanks Melody Boyd for the photos.

It amazes me that, occasionally, we can still come across cat fancy artifacts that are well over 100 years old. We have just acquired this Canadian National Exhibition Dog & Cat Show pass.

Dated Wed, Aug 28 to Fri Sept 6, the year 1907 is shown on the back of the pass. That makes sense as the pass is signed by W.K. George, who was President of the CNE during that year.

What doesn't match is that the exhibition was called the Toronto Industrial Exhibition 1907, and the name was officially changed to the Canadian National Exhibition in 1912. Coincidentally, those same days/dates also occurred in 1912. But, a copy of the 1906 cat show catalog includes "Canadian National Exhibition" on the cover, so obviously they were using that name prior to 1912. A conundrum, indeed, and I'm inclined to believe the 1907 date is correct.

Whichever year is the correct one, 1907 or 1912, remains to be confirmed but we are delighted to add this CNE pass to our collection of memorabilia from past CNE shows in Canada.

Shows during this era were CFA shows produced by the Royal Canadian Cat Club. We will be adding a history of the CNE shows in Canada to The History Project web site (cat-o-pedia.org) in the coming days.
