The Kivu Project

The Kivu Project Providing Educational Opportunities and Poverty Relief in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo Then and there The Kivu Project, Inc was born.

“A Congolese child born today can expect to achieve only 37% of their potential, compared to what would have been possible if they had benefited from a full, quality schooling experience.” That same source indicates that “The quality of education is extremely poor. In terms of learning and achievement, the primary completion rate is only about 67 %, and an estimated 86% of 10-year-olds in DRC are

in learning poverty, meaning they cannot read and understand a simple text.” - World Bank

Our mission is to help alleviate that. Through this school, and other forthcoming projects, we are hoping to create an opportunity for the children of Mushaki, DRC to meet their potential and earn an education to help them gain admission in a secondary school in a larger and safer area within the DRC. Co-founded by Jackie Jaramillo and Dan Torsiello in 2021, The Kivu Project, Inc. came from a trip Dan took in hopes of accomplishing the lifelong goal of trekking into the mountains and visiting with the endangered mountain gorilla. In addition to the trek, guide Christian Aganze of Congo Local Guides asked if Dan would be willing to visit some of Goma’s overflowing orphanages and possibly make a small donation. Aside from visiting orphanages, Christian arranged for a visit to the rural village of Mushaki. Part of Dan's time in Mushaki was spent visiting a local school - school being used in the most basic sense. Missing walls, a lack of school supplies, and far less seating than students are just some of the challenges facing the school. The scene goes from disappointing to heartbreaking when you factor in the dirty clothes and bare feet of the children attending this school.

African Child Day 2026 Celebration at Global Bright Children Orphanage

On June 16, 2026, Global Bright Children, with the full support of The Kivu Project, celebrated African Child Day through awareness sessions, educational activities, games, and joyful moments with children.

The event highlighted children’s rights and the importance of water, hygiene, and sanitation (WASH), encouraging every child to believe in their potential and build a brighter future.

Special thanks to The Kivu Project, donors, partners, and friends for their continued support and commitment to the well-being of vulnerable children.
Together, let’s continue protecting children’s rights and creating a world where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

🚨 AWARENESS MESSAGE AGAINST EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE 🚨
The Kivu Project & Global Bright Children
Dear brothers and sisters,
In the face of the danger posed by Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), The Kivu Project and Global Bright Children call on the entire community to remain vigilant, act responsibly, and strictly follow prevention measures to protect our families and our community.
📌 What is Ebola?
Ebola is a serious and highly contagious disease that spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected or deceased person.
⚠️ Main signs and symptoms:
• Sudden high fever
• Severe fatigue
• Headache
• Vomiting and diarrhea
• Unusual bleeding
✅ How to protect yourself:
• Wash your hands regularly with soap and clean water.
• Avoid direct contact with sick individuals or their personal belongings.
• Do not touch the bodies of deceased persons without proper protection.
• Report any suspected case immediately to the nearest health center.
• Trust health workers and carefully follow their advice.
🤝 Together, we can stop Ebola.
Prevention starts with each one of us. Let us protect our children, our families, and our future.

🚨🚨🚨 URGENT CALL FOR SOLIDARITY – SAVE A LIFE

On January 10, 2026, this precious baby was born.
Today, February 17, 2026, he has been welcomed at Global Bright Children – The Kivu Project in Goma after the tragic loss of his mother in a road accident.
Coming from an extremely vulnerable family, he now needs urgent support: infant formula (0–6 months), medical care, clothing, diapers, and daily nutritional follow-up to survive and grow healthy.

We cannot do this alone.
Every donation, every prayer, and every share can help save his life. 🙏
