Task Force Breaks

Task Force Breaks Task Force Breaks is a program that distributes sports cards and non-sports cards to children impacted by man-made and natural disasters.

Each time the Disaster Task Force deploys, they take hundreds, if not thousands, of trading cards with them.

Avery Liam Garcia-Valentin — Avery The Poke Kid — died Friday, September 18, 2026, at only 12 years old, after nearly eight years living with pancreatoblastoma, a rare childhood pancreatic cancer.

Like many others, we are heartbroken.

We have a very special tribute planned to keep Avery's legacy and passion alive.

Last month, the Disaster Task Force was returning from deployment in Kansas when they learned of a Flash Flood Emergency in Jackson, Kentucky.

Realizing they were less than an hour away, the Task Force immediately turned around and headed into the area to offer assistance.

In Sandgap, Kentucky, they meat Jaxson. Jaxon asked if they had any Cincinnati Reds cards. As the Task Force wasn't expecting to be in Kentucky, they didn't.

However, Jaxon was promised they would send him some.

Fast forward to last week: When the Task Force learned they were being deployed to Missouri, members Tim and Peter got some Reds cards together - numbered, inserts, rookies and an oversized rookie card - and took them to Missouri.

On the way home, the DTF paid Jaxon a visit.

Promise kept.

These past few day, the Disaster Task Force distributed more than 1,300 hundred sports cards in southern Missouri to children impacted by flash flooding. An equal amount were distributed in east Tennessee after flash flooding there.

We began this "trip" in Indiana and Illinois. We then headed towards western Nebraska before being rerouted to the Gulf Coast.

This morning we woke up in Lousianna. But we're not heading home...

We being rerouted once again.

Currently in Arkansas heading to middle Tennessee to stage.

So far, we've given away 1100 sports and Pokémon cards.

If fate and time allows, we're going to try to FINALLY stop by Grand Slam Collectibles. Fingers crossed.

What started as a simple idea has now become something we are absolutely proud to have begun.

As of their most recent deployment to Wisconsin, the Disaster Task Force, through the Task Force Breaks progam, has now given away more than 12,000 sports and non-sports trading cards to kids in communities affected by disasters across the country.

Every card handed out is more than just a card. It’s a smile. It's a distraction. It's an ice breaker for kids in evacuations shelters to introduce themselves as they compare, trade and discuss their cards.

More than anything, it's a reminder that somebody showed up.

None of this happens without the support of our growing community, our donors, and those who support this program.

As the Task Force loads this morning to pre-deploy to The Plains (they'll be staging near Wichita, Kansas), we have given them thousands of sports cards of the teams most popular in the areas most likely to be impacted.

This is their 11th deployment of 2026!

In addition to the non-sports cards we also give them to take, we're sending them with more than 2 dozen Cooper DeJean rookie cards, since he's from Iowa. Some show him wearing his University of Iowa uniform.
