The Montessori approach to education focuses on child-led learning in an environment designed as a Children’s House, where the driving force is the community of children. With a curriculum that includes Practical Life, World Culture, Language, Mathematics, Peace Education, and Sensorial, it is a multi-aged, hands-on approach where youngsters learn to work collaboratively and are encouraged to guid
e their own discoveries motivated by their individual interests and needs, moving forward at their own pace. With a teacher serving as a guide to their learning, and mindful of each child's progress and ability, we create a welcoming learning environment where children thrive and become lifelong, self-motivated learners, always keeping into consideration the whole child: physically, socially, cognitively, and emotionally. At Dahlia Montessori we know that proficiency in more than one language is a valuable skill to be cultivated and nurtured aiding individuals to thrive in an increasingly diverse society. As a bilingual school, we will be serving Hispanic families by communicating with them in their native language and helping with transitioning culturally, while giving access to those English speaking children and families to a new language and culture. While our society has made social progress through the past few decades, that same society still judges people by the color of their skin and our systems still don’t provide everyone with the same life opportunities. We know this needs to change and we are committed to provide high quality Montessori education to underserved children who would otherwise not be able to attend a program like ours. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit that serves a mixed-income population with 2/3 tuition paying students and 1/3 of students on childcare subsidies through the State. We see the values of diversity, equity, and inclusivity as mission-critical. Without embracing these values, we simply cannot achieve our program goals or have the impact we want to have. Dahlia Montessori is a community-based environment where we encourage our students and their families to interweave with the local community and exchange experiences while building relationships, allowing us to try and figure out how we can better help each other and show that we care and appreciate one another with children as active learners of these enriching practices.
