My dad grew up in Allendale County, near Barton at "Stillwood Plantation." I grew up in New Jersey but my family ROOTS in South Carolina go back to the 1700s! This started as an Arts Council page but has now turned into history/possible area interest.

Savannah River Mission Completion donates $15,000 to Allendale-Fairfax Elementary School
AIKEN, S.C. (May 27, 2025) — Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) donated $15,000 to Allendale-Fairfax Elementary School (AFES) to boost their science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) program.

Savannah River Mission Completion is the liquid waste contractor at Savannah River Site.

This donation marks the second time that SRMC has given to the AFES STEM program. SRMC President and Program Manager Dave Olson said this award will further advance their STEM studies by providing more resources to cultivate these young minds.

“This SRMC investment will improve the learning capabilities of Allendale-Fairfax students by providing financial assistance to obtain additional STEM materials that require creativity, analytical, and problem-solving skills that will prepare these students for a brighter future,” Olson said. “We are investing our time, talent, and treasure in AFES.”

AFES Principal Sheila Leath says that SRMC’s support is important in helping students better understand what STEM is and what they can do with that knowledge.

“Not only has SRMC provided monetary gifts for our STEM program, but its engineers bring energy and hands-on experiments to the classrooms, encouraging student participation,” said Leath. “We appreciate the classroom visits by engineers who are providing hands-on STEM experiments to challenge students to use their creativity and problem-solving skills. We are grateful for SRMC’s sustained support.”

SRMC is the Liquid Waste Contractor at the Savannah River Site and comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission ex*****on, and strong corporate governance.
