Imagine watching your grandchild go through cancer treatment while worrying about how you'll keep a roof over their head.

After losing his mother several years ago, 12-year-old Angel was being raised by his loving grandparents when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Angel loves soccer. It's something he excels at and a source of happiness during difficult times. But his diagnosis and treatment kept him off the field, making an already challenging journey even harder.

His grandparents were by his side throughout treatment, missing work to provide the care and emotional support he needed. As they focused on Angel, the financial strain made keeping up with their house payment increasingly difficult.

This is why Big Z exists. To help ease the financial burden so families like Angel's can focus on caring for the people they love.

Back in August, our Big Z community helped us deliver fully stocked backpacks to Children’s Health for young patients and their siblings.

The Hoefler family knows firsthand how pediatric illness affects the entire family, which made this message from the Children’s Health School Services team especially meaningful.

"One of the patients' parents was brought to tears by the letter your daughter [Kendall] wrote for the backpack. The dad shared that, in the hustle and bustle of caring for a sick child, siblings can sometimes feel overlooked. The note served as a meaningful reminder of his other children and how important it is to acknowledge and support them as well. He was very thankful for the backpack but most of all for that sweet and gentle reminder."

To everyone who supported our Back to School Drive, thank you. Your generosity made an impact that went far beyond school supplies.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for Friends of Big Z Happy Hour. Seeing longtime supporters, new faces, and friends come together in one room to support families facing catastrophic pediatric illness is exactly what this event was all about.
