Yesterday was a beautiful day for a 5K in South Dallas, hosted by the African American Male Wellness Agency. At the family-friendly event, runners, walkers, members of the Divine Nine, HBCU alumni, Dallas police, doctors, fitness and healthcare professionals, health agencies, and grocers gathered to support Black men's wellness. Free screenings—A1C, cholesterol, and PSA—were available. Participants from the Anthony D. Turner Scholarship walked in memory of Anthony and others who have passed, honoring survivors and those currently facing heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and mental health challenges.

1/19/26 is a national holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and is also a Day of Service — a “day on, not a day off” that encourages volunteerism and community action.

In preparation for the 2026 Day of Service, the Anthony D. Turner Scholarship is supporting Wednesday Worship Wash Day, a Making It Count program offering prayer, food and free laundry services to people experiencing homelessness and others in underserved communities.

If you can, please consider volunteering or helping someone this MLK Day.

We thank board member Nina Ware-Henry for her support of Wednesday Worship Wash Day.
