TFC WPSL WOMEN'S PREMIER TEAM KICKS OFF INAUGURAL SEASON WITH DECISIVE WIN
TFC Women's WPSL team kicked off its inaugural season with a great victory over host American Eagles at University of Dallas Stadium. TFC had a slow start with possession and were being dominated by the home team American Eagles. Eventually, the nerves settled and TFC began to find their rhythm. A generous penalty was given in the 20th minute and team Captain Janette Javette-Barton made no mistake as she buried the penalty in the upper right corner giving TFC the 1-0 lead. American Eagles showed their determination and came right back on a break away to equalize in the 22nd minute making it 1-1.
It wasn't until the 45th minute that the deadlock was broken when substitute Brittney Harrison made a fantastic run down the right flank, beating the defender with pace and slotting across a ball that found a well covered Heather Hutyra. Heather raced across the box and finished for her first of 3 goals in the game. TFC went into the half with a 2-1 lead.
TFC began the second half with an entertaining and commanding display of soccer. In the 60th minute, Javette-Barton scored her second goal of the day on a brilliant free kick making it 3-1. Three minutes later, Hutyra struck from 30 yards out to her tally for her second of the day making it 4-1. Two minutes later, in the 65th minute Mikey Arrendondo finished a fantastic sequence of play with a quality finish off a volley making it 5-1. The goals were capped off in the 76th minute with Hutyra ending her day with her deserved hat trick finishing the game 6-1.
Coach Grado was pleased with the team's efforts stating, "It was a total team effort! Grado continued, "Once the girls settled down and played, they showed their character and class." "It's a good start for us and a game for us to build from," Grado explained. "We know that it will only get tougher as the season continues and we must improve to reach our goals," Grado concluded.
TFC's next match will be their home opener versus Houston Select at McKinney Boyd Stadium on Saturday May 26, at 7:30pm. The following day, TFC travels to play Ft. Worth Panthers Sunday May 27th, at 2:00pm at TCU's Soccer complex.
