What if your next prescription isn’t a pill but a plate of food?

IISc Bengaluru and Tufts University (USA) are teaming up to launch a first-of-its-kind centre that could change how we treat disease by focusing on nutrition not just medicine.

Here’s what they’ll explore:
✅Gut health and immunity
✅Plant-based and precision diets
✅Nutrition’s role in ageing, cancer, & lifestyle diseases
✅AI-powered tools + tele-nutrition to bring expert advice to India’s remotest clinics
✅Ultra-processed foods and its impact on chronic illness

The centre will also reform medical education, training the next generation of nutrition-savvy doctors and researchers.

India stands at a critical crossroads, grappling with undernutrition in some corners and lifestyle diseases in others.

Large-scale intervention studies on anaemia, hypertension, and child malnutrition will help develop scalable healthcare solutions for our country's diverse population.

“This isn’t just about studying food. It’s about changing the future of medicine,” IISc told SF.

This generous contribution will go a long way to supporting the health and wellness needs of Indians and ensuring the development of life saving technologies and procedures that will enhance the health of generations to come!

We are extremely delighted to partner with the Tata Group to establish the Tata IISc Medical School on campus. Under an MoU signed today, the Tata Group will make a contribution of Rs 500 crore to support the establishment of the medical school.

The Tata IISc Medical School will push frontiers in medical research, and train the next generation of physician-scientists and medical technologists in the country. It will focus on a variety of specialities including oncology, cardiology, neurology, nephrology, diabetes and metabolic disorders, infectious diseases, integrative medicine, and public health.

The Tata Group and IISc have a century-old legacy of commitment to excellence. The Institute owes its existence to the munificence and far-sighted vision of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, who was unparalleled in his philanthropy towards education in India. The partnership will carry forward this legacy to pioneer healthcare solutions for India and the world.

A few years ago, IISc Bangalore found that the flagship 4-year undergraduate B.S (Research) has less than 20% women students. The ratio was too low, and funding resources were limited. Hence, IISc reached out to Alumi to raise sponsorships for UG scholarships for women to augment the ratio.

The Midwest Chapter of IISc AANA, jumped right in and were able to raise $18,000 in 2022 through Alum contributions, which helped three women students for their entire UG study of four years. The gratitude and smile on the faces of the scholarship recipients were overwhelming.

This year the AANA Midwest Chapter hopes to raise $20,000 for sponsoring Women’s UG scholarship. Would you be able to help the talented young women scientists achieve their dreams by making a contribution?

Here is the link to IISc Foundation for AANA-MW Chapter fundraiser: https://iisc-foundation.networkforgood.com/projects/202121-iisc-aana-midwest-chapter-fundraiser
