Gold Star Mother Edith Thibodeau Pelletier ‘s son Melford Pelletier was the only soldier killed in action from Allagash.

Melford Joseph Pelletier was one of the men that perished off the coast of Japan during World War II. He was a member of crew on the USS Wasp when it was bombed. He and his brothers at arms were buried at sea, but his marker is located in his birthplace.
