This young kid has dealt with a lot of loss in his family.

Even though he’s struggling and feels like he’s drowning, his God will keep him afloat.
Those are oars coming out of the cross.

He felt safe enough to be seen, and I love that he shared his story with me!

Meet Danny Morris, the Principal at Valley Vista High School in Fountain Valley.

He sat in a seat with the rest of the 9th grade health class as I presented.

He was super stoked on what the INK IT project represents and how it helps the kids face what they are going through, so they can begin to heal.

It was a special day!!!

Turns out we know some of the same people back in the 80s & 90s who used to skate.

She teared up as I shared my story at an INK IT event in Fountain Valley.

It was pretty evident something was going on and she was relating to my story somehow.

Towards the end of class,
She shared about her design and how her brain just wont stop.

We have INK IT events throughout the year with different 9th grade health classes. We implement the hats as part of the Mental Health curriculum.

The kids at this continuation school are awesome!!!!

Wish me luck in letting these kids know that they are more than what they are going through today, and that they are LOVED!!

My brother overdosed 14 yrs ago. We shared a room growing up and did a lot of skating, surfing and getting into mischief together. I do miss him - a lot. I tried fixing him from his addiction, but you can’t fix people. At the end, this is when I realized I can’t do jack to make him better. I can only pray. But God fixed him. My brother rededicated his life to the Lord in jail. When he got out, he was good for ~7 months.
My mom called me on a Sunday when they got back from church and I was at the Happiest Place on Earth - Disneyland. “Your brother is gone.” Yes, he’s gone to Glory in a new body - free from earths pains.

I read all the letters. The good thing is that they all write something down. The bad thing is that so many people are going through such gnarly stuff. Half the time I don’t know what to say and maybe I shouldn’t say anything at all. So I just sit there and listen because maybe that’s just what they wanna do, just get it out

This was rad!
She was pretty much quiet, the whole time while she designed a couple hats. I gave her my phone and asked her to describe what she designed and bam, she throws out a promo for 34 Stitches. The best promo ever!!!
We had an ink event for survivors of the domestic violence. She kept to herself and was designing away. And then she came alive as she described her hats. She is AWESOME!!!!
