Here’s a peak of Community Build Day at Estrada Head Start! 👀 Parents and community members were invited to engage with Estrada’s school garden by harvesting fresh produce, filling new garden beds with dirt, and planting potatoes. They also had the opportunity to start a home garden with the “Starting with Seeds” activity from TWIGS. To top it off, each household went home with a produce bag filled with farm fresh eggs, greens, fruits, and herbs from farms. An event like this would not be possible without our wonderful partnerships! 🥕

Baldwin Elementary’s NAC students wrap up a great TWIGS series with a garden bed clean-up. They delivered multiple TWIGS garden lessons to kindergarten classes this year, so we celebrated their effort and dedication with certificates and lunch in the very garden they brought their students out to. During the clean up, they found leftover radishes and insect pals, a fun reminder of their previous lessons! These garden experts also tried the TWIGS Sippin Soda recipe and rated the healthy drink a 10/10. Excited to see what future projects are in store for our middle schoolers, and proud of our 8th graders moving onto high school.

We are thrilled to highlight our wonderful partnership with and the senior community at Oaks in Florence! The seniors have the opportunity to purchase farm fresh produce and eggs once a month through a farm stand hosted by Grow Good. The best part? Seniors can use their EBT/ SNAP benefits without leaving their homes!

The seniors have the added opportunity to expand their nutrition knowledge and build community with their neighbors! Nutrition educator, Ingrid, infuses education and movement to create an unforgettable learning experience.

Our All People’s Community Center participants came together for their final Food Smarts Lesson of the series, and to celebrate they cooked a delicious soup with veggies from this very garden. 🍲 This community cooking opportunity was a beautiful space for members to share their favorite cooking and health tips. They also played a charades game to discuss exercise motivations and barriers, and to laugh together, of course! 🏃‍♀️‍➡️ The day ended with the distribution of certificates and a taste test — all ages and species of participants gave the community veggie soup a 10/10! 👩‍🌾🦜

Our West Covina 4th graders have completed their Harvesting Healthy Habits series! 🎉 All students received a certificate to celebrate the completion of 5 sessions that included nutrition and gardening lessons (TWIGS). Shoutout to all our schools for participating in our lessons with an open mind and amazing energy. We hope they recreate their favorite recipes at home and are able to start a home garden with all the knowledge they’ve learned. 🧑‍🍳👩‍🌾Thank you to our garden volunteer, George Funk and thank you for a great year WCUSD and Hurst Ranch!

The West Covina Unified School District (WCUSD) students have completed their fifth and final lesson at Hurst Ranch! 🤩 In the garden, students looked for fuzzy friends and harvested fresh produce from the garden beds. 🐛🥕In the kitchen, they learned about sugary drinks and tried a sparkling fresh fruit alternative, just in time for summer! ☀️🥤
