On 2/25 our Wisdom Wednesday speaker was Jamie Spitzer, a certified life coach & supporter of the Algoma Community!
Jamie shared his knowledge on the power of the mind and how being aware of your thoughts is essential to making the most of your life. He shared how your thoughts will determine where you go in life, and whether you believe this or you don’t will ultimately determine your success and the levels of joy you have throughout your life.
The average person has so many thoughts each day, and the vast majority are all the same, which are very negative based. We are creatures of habit often looking for the best/easiest way to do things so we have gotten really good at living life on autopilot. Many times, trying to slow down to gain a new perspective is too painful therefore change is something that seems so far out of reach. As we continue to look at our thoughts by slowing down to understand how they work and what all impacts the emotions and feelings we get from these thoughts, we can make less reactionary decisions.
During this process of unpacking our thoughts, there are some tools that can help you see things with clarity.
-Boundaries, what they are, when to use them and how they can add value
-Curiosity over negativity, criticism, anxiety, and stress
-Control the controllables – too many people are addicted to trying to control every aspect of their lives which is impossible. How to focus on the things you have control over and learning to let go of the things you don’t gives you your power back.
-Learn to decompress – people of all ages are running through life like they are lit on fire. Taking time for yourself, is an unheard of thing these days and it is doing damage to people’s overall well-being. A simple 5 minutes a day of no disruptions, no distractions, and just learning to be still while difficult to master is the backbone of decompression. Your body cannot live in this constant state of stress and pressure and it is up to you to say enough is enough.
Thanks for the wise words, Jamie! We appreciate your time and energy spent giving back to the school district!
