This garden interest survey will help steer Cornell Cooperative Extension's programming to help more new gardeners! Please take if you are able.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Allegany, Steuben, and Cattaraugus Counties are interested in developing a home gardening initiative that would support residents growing their own food, either in a neighborhood or individual setting. Hello Alfred Community,

We are happy to announce that our garden is opening on May 15th with preventative health guidelines in mind. At this time, we are not accepting any other gardeners. Please check in next year if you are interested in having a raised bed plot of your own. Our garden is free to the community as a service initiative through Alfred State College.

Below are some guidelines our garden is putting in place to help keep everyone safe:
· All gardeners are wearing masks as directed by the NYS Governor’s Office. We are maintaining social distancing.
· We are washing our hands at the entry point to the garden at the pump, or using hand sanitizer. Some of us are bringing biodegradable soap each time we come to the garden.
· Gloves are a normal part of gardening, and each person is encouraged to provide personal gloves while in the garden, and each person is encouraged to wear the gloves.
· We are must signing in and out every time we are in the garden so others know who was here and when.
· We are not using communal tools usually kept in our garden shed. Instead we are bringing personal tools from home.

Stay healthy and happy gardening!

It's that time of year again! If you have any extra flower bulbs and want to help make our garden a little more beautiful, please consider leaving them in a bag or a box on the bench next to the fountain.

We have High School volunteers coming on October 3rd and would love to have them plant these bulbs in the outer flower ring. Perennials help tremendously with decreasing our maintenance of the space. Last year we had fantastic bulb donations including tulips, irises, and daffodils- but this year we're shooting for even more!

It's finally here! The Tomato Festival, our biggest event of the year, is NEXT WEEK during our usual market time (11-3). We will have tomato tasting contests, salsa making, live music, kids activities, and salsa dancing from Martelle Dance Academy in Wellsville! Students of both colleges will be back in town and we are expecting this to be a fantastic day. Hope to see you there!
