Institute for Electronic Arts The Institute for Electronic Arts is an art and technology research studio within the School of Art and Design, NYSCC, Alfred University, New York.

The iea offers time, space, facilities, and support for artists to engage with their research proposals. IEA programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and the Schein-Joseph Endowment. The IEA encourages and supports projects that involve interactive multi-media systems, experimental sonic/vid

eo production, digital imaging, and publications. The IEA is committed to developing cultural interactions spurred by technological experimentation and artistic investigations.

On Sunday, August 30, 2026 Ali Santana (Ali Santana) completed his three-week New Media residency with us! Through his time with the iea, Ali continued work on his ongoing project ‘Black Man with a Movie Camera’, which he will continue as part of a large-scale immersive assemblage.

Ali said the following about his residency: “This residency allowed me the time and resources to experiment with different techniques and resume projects that have been on hold. I made use of dedicated studio time to experiment and explore new processes. I originally came with the intention of creating video art but wound up doing so much more including creating an accompanying soundtrack, collaging and working with both digital and analog printmaking processes.”

In the first two weeks of his residency, Ali Santana (Ali Santana) has spent his time reviewing and editing 16mm archival film footage, mixing projections, and creating the soundtrack for his ‘Black Man with a Movie Camera’ project.

On Sunday, June 21, 2026 Philip Gresham (Philip Gresham) completed his one-week residency with us!

Phil’s primary focus of this residency was working with the iea’s XY plotter for copperplate etchings. Keeping busy in this short one-week residency, Phil also incorporated screen print, laser cutting, and chine collé.

Philip Gresham is a printmaker living and working in Rocheport, MO. He completed his BFA at the Kansas City Art Institute in 2010 and is currently a MFA candidate at the University of Missouri Columbia. He is an active member of the printmaking community and currently serves as exhibitions committee chair for the Southern Graphics Council International.
