Thank you to all of the Liberatus stakeholders for your participation as leaders in the mission since 2015.
You created a monumental guide for how to inspire American unity and lead free people, now available at the link. Look for ‘How To Lead Free People.’ In case you’re ready to create a second decade of the mission, write in at Liberatus.org. But no matter what, the directives in this paper are for all of us. So like the Olympic torch relay-take it; run.

The Craft of American Politics
•••
Today’s post on the Leadership Journal offers a flywheel for American political operatives to reimagine how we do our work, moving from dysfunction to unity or craftsmanship. To read it, head to the link and click on the Leadership Journal.

Shout-out: Jim Collins and Good to Great for the flywheel concept.

Endurance Adventure
•••
Governing our country should be an endurance adventure, not a culture war.

When we take on challenges because they are hard, push through resistance when everything goes to @ #$!, and regroup for rest, we build endurance.

The Liberatus creative cycle, connecting policy debates to everyday conversations with renewed values, is built to be an endurance adventure, so you and many Americans can participate to make our country more just and free.

Co-Create the Volume Two cycle as a Liberatus Advocate with a monthly donation at the link! To create the next volume of inspiration for American unity, serve writers, Americans across the country, and partner orgs, we’ve set a goal of raising $2,000 in monthly donations. In case you haven’t already, you can also get a copy of Volume One at the link. Onward,

Coming Wednesday: The Root of Burnout | In the next journal entry in the leadership journal, we’ll look at burnout as the culmination of the cycle of dysfunction in politics, the root of burnout, the reason for that root, and the path out to freedom: quality craftsmanship and service. To get it and every journal entry delivered to your inbox at 5am each Wednesday morning, head to the link and sign up at the Leadership Journal.

The Writing Prompts:

What writing prompt would you add to the Liberatus General Writing Guidelines document? Here’s the current list of questions—these are the starting point for nearly all of the conversations we’ve had with the writers we serve—19 published so far.

Questions to Inspire Creative Writing

1. In what ways are you experiencing tension between what is and what could be in light of the characteristics of the kingdom of God? (Matthew 5-6; John 17, Romans 8, I John)

2. How do you hope to see the peace of Christ bring restoration in that tension?

3. What are the next steps—and obstacles—to restoration?

4. How can you artistically and beautifully communicate hope from the standpoint of your experience in politics and government? How can you depict a lifestyle of freedom?

These questions are one of the reasons the mission is so critical—as a starting point for deeper conversation and action, they can help us renew culture from inside political culture. The first step is to go deep right where we are.

Nothing changes if nothing changes.

Compassion is how we obliterate power structures that devalue others. The real message of Volume One isn’t that we should care for people like asylum-seekers at the US-Mexico border who are in need because they’re needy, it’s that we are all needy and we should obliterate dehumanization of others.

Rightness is the root of ideology as the first step of the cycle of dysfunction. We are addicted to being right, to proving that we are right, and to attacking anyone who suggests that we are not right.

Being right is how we think we can establish our sense of worth (instead of recognizing that we already have it and can create from it).

Thank you, Advocates

Thank you to all donors for creating not just some printed sheets of paper, but rather a new conversation, a new way of organizing—for political professionals, for Americans all over the country, and for the creators who are making our country more just and free.

Inspiration for American unity is about how we become leaders for American unity, because nothing changes if nothing changes.

There’s a group of donors who are actively co-creating the next part of the story by making regular monthly donations. Liberatus Advocates are people who understand that creating something meaningful happens when we build endurance, not momentum. Liberatus Advocates stick with it over the long haul. They make choices every day with the end in view—regardless of how any given day looks or feels. They choose not to give up something, but rather to create something bigger than self.
