CMS is considering changes that could improve Medicare payment for physical therapist services, and new APTA analysis suggests the impact may extend well beyond the next few years.

After reviewing newly released CMS data, APTA experts found that proposed changes to practice expense calculations could result in a 35%-45% increase in practice expense relative value unit values for most commonly used PT codes over the next eight years. For providers, that could translate to annual payment increases of roughly 1%-3% for most commonly billed PT services.

These proposed changes reflect years of by APTA and its members, but the rule is not yet final. πŸ“’ Submit your comments to CMS by Sept. 14 to join the fight to advance payment.
