Good luck to the four Alex Cardinals representing our community at the Minnesota Hockey High Performance 15 Program!

This week, Brogan Block will compete at the University of St. Thomas, while Raya Oberg, Brynn Halvorson, and Claire Birrenkott will take the ice at St. Olaf, competing alongside and against some of the top players in Minnesota in their age group.

Enjoy every moment of this incredible opportunity. Compete hard, learn from the experience, and continue to represent Alex Hockey with pride, grit, and sportsmanship.

🏒 The 14th Annual Little Wild Learn to Play Program is coming to ALEXANDRIA this Fall!

This program gives first-time hockey players ages 5-8 the chance to experience the game with support from the Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Hockey, CCM, Pure Hockey, NHL, and NHLPA.

✅ 4 on-ice sessions led by Minnesota Hockey ADM instructors
✅ Full set of hockey equipment included
✅ FREE preseason Minnesota Wild ticket for every participant

This program is designed for boys and girls who are brand new to organized hockey, a perfect way to get started in the State of Hockey!

Spots are limited and fill quickly each year! Registration opens May 27th at 10am!

That’s a wrap on our Spring Beginner’s Clinic! 🏒

We are SO proud of each and every one of these kids who stepped onto the ice—learning to skate, working through drills, and getting back up every single time they fell down. 💪 That’s what it’s all about!

The growth, effort, and smiles we saw over these past weeks have been incredible. We can’t wait to continue watching this group develop—not just as hockey players, but as teammates and individuals.

Way to go, future Cardinals! ❤️🖤

FROM THE LAKES TO TEAM USA 🇺🇸

Henry Buttweiler, a former Cardinal is headed to the top.

Henry has been selected to the USA National Team Development Program (NTDP) — one of the most elite development paths in the country. This program brings together the very best players in the United States to train, compete, and represent Team USA on the international stage.

Players in the NTDP face top competition every single day, pushing their game to the highest level while preparing for college hockey and beyond.

THE JOURNEY STARTS HERE

This all started right here in Alexandria, lacing them up at just 4 years old, beginning with learn-to-skate and mites. From early mornings at the rink to countless hours of work, this is what development looks like.

Through the years, strong leadership and coaching helped shape the player and the person. Coaches like Ryan Severson, Jon Cullen, Clay Rehm, Matt Anderson, Micah Christensen, and Mac Strong all played a role. Henry also states, “my dad also had a big impact on me, spending a lot of time with me and always encouraging me to improve.”

WHAT’S NEXT

The next chapter begins in Michigan, reporting just before Labor Day to kick off training camp.

Preparation is already underway:

Strength & conditioning
Speed development
Skill work
Nutrition focus
All building toward the pace and intensity of NTDP hockey.

Work hard. Have fun. Make mistakes.
Get extra reps - spend extra time skating, shooting pucks, practicing skills and listen to your coaches. Most importantly, enjoy the game, be a great teammate, trust the process and don’t take anything for granted.

Congratulations Henry! We are proud of you for proving that big dreams can come from a small town. Go get em!!

AAHA is proud to have players advancing to Phase 3 of the Minnesota High Performance Hockey Program, a statewide development program designed to identify and train the top players at each age level.

For those unfamiliar, High Performance isn’t just a camp, it’s a multi-phase process where athletes are evaluated and selected through intense competition. Each phase gets smaller, faster, and more competitive, bringing together the best players from across Minnesota.

By the time you reach Phase 3, you’re competing with and against talent from every corner of the state. This is where players are pushed, challenged, and developed beyond the local level.

And Alexandria is right in the mix. Proud of you all, let’s keep going!

Just a few sessions left of our Spring Beginners Clinic.

It’s been going great and a lot of fun watching these skaters grow this past week. One of the best parts has been having our high school players and coaches out there helping and connecting with the kids.

Excited to finish out the final two sessions strong. The future of Alex Hockey!

Strong start to our Beginners Clinic last night.

50+ new skaters on the ice, and you could feel the energy right away. A lot of first-timers, a lot of hard work, and a ton of excitement as they got after it.

This is how you build something….getting kids on the ice, keeping it fun, and watching it grow from here.

Big thanks to the coaches and volunteers who jumped in to make night one a success. We’re just getting started. Alexandria hockey in the making ❤️
