That was one of the many questions explored at Alexandria's 15th Annual Senior Law Day, where more than 225 older adults, caregivers, family members, and community advocates gathered to learn how to age with confidence, clarity, and peace of mind.
Hosted by Senior Services of Alexandria and the Alexandria Bar Association, the annual event tackled some of the most important issues facing older adults today, including estate planning, powers of attorney, advance directives, financial scams, public benefits, caregiving, and healthcare resources.
For attendee Annie Hall, the event provided valuable information she could put to use immediately.
"I learned about some options I hadn't known for my own financial protection and legacy, especially as relates to mental capacity, and to double-check for my 90-year-old mother with dementia," Hall said.
Experts warned attendees about the growing sophistication of financial scams targeting seniors and shared practical strategies for protecting assets and avoiding fraud. Attorneys also discussed the critical legal documents every adult should consider having in place before a crisis occurs.
The event's theme, "Confidence and Clarity as You Age," resonated throughout the day as participants gained knowledge, asked questions, and connected with local resources designed to help them remain independent and informed.
As one attendee put it, one of the best parts of the day wasn't just the information—it was seeing so many people come together to learn.
