Unions Are Still Defending Working People Every Day

A VA ER nurse in Baltimore was nearly separated from his position after HR issued a notice claiming his nursing license renewal had expired. For Title 38 employees, mistakes like this can become career-ending.

Thankfully, he wasn’t alone.

After turning to NAGE Local R3-19, union leadership stepped in immediately. Susie Cameron guided the member through the proper appeal process, escalated the issue, and uncovered that the separation notice had been issued in error.

Because of union representation, the employee kept his job.

Without it, he likely would have lost his career and been forced to reapply for employment.

This is exactly why unions are still around.

Workers deserve protection. Workers deserve due process. And workers deserve experienced advocates willing to fight when management gets it wrong.

In a time when employee protections continue to face attacks, NAGE remains committed to standing up for federal workers and ensuring no member faces these battles alone.

Solidarity matters. Representation matters. Unions matter.

Spanberger has until May 22 to sign or reject the bill after the General Assembly quashed her changes, which critics argue weakened the proposed labor law.

National Representative Darcy Burgess delivered a powerful message at yesterday’s rally, reminding everyone just how essential DC government workers are to the heartbeat of this city.

DC employees provide the critical services that keep our communities functioning every single day.

These workers are not optional. They are essential to the flow, stability, and well-being of the District. When DC workers are undervalued or their services are threatened, it impacts the entire city.

We stand united in demanding fair compensation, respect, and protection for the workers who keep DC moving. 💜💛

Power in unity! Yesterday, NAGE along with other DC unions came together to rally for fair compensation and to fight for the workers who serve this city every single day.

We showed up loud, proud, and united because public service workers deserve respect, protection, and pay that matches the work we do.

DC workers matter — and we’re not backing down.

What happens when you cut tens of thousands of workers from the VA?

We’re finding out.

Recent reports show that major staffing reductions, especially in healthcare roles, are affecting veterans' access to care. Longer wait times, fewer services, and increased strain on remaining staff are real consequences.

Even in the face of these changes, we continue to advocate for you. These types of working conditions raise serious concerns, and we will not stand by while workers and the veterans they serve are put at risk.

Federal workers don’t just hold jobs; they deliver critical services.

Supporting strong unions means ensuring accountability, safe staffing, and the resources needed to serve our veterans with dignity.

You still have rights, and we are still fighting for your rights to be upheld

We’re seeing significant changes across the federal workforce, and union rights are at the center of it.

At the Department of Defense, collective bargaining agreements are being scaled back. Across health agencies tied to NIH and HHS, union protections are being challenged. And at the VA, hundreds of thousands of workers have had to fight in court just to preserve their contracts.

This isn’t just policy; it’s about whether federal workers have a voice.

Unions exist to ensure fairness, accountability, and safe working conditions. Supporting your union helps protect those rights, making sure safeguards are in place when they’re needed most.

We stand in solidarity with federal workers across NIH, DoD, VA, and all agencies.

The White House is proposing a major shift in federal spending priorities—and it’s raising a lot of questions.

A new budget proposal calls for a 10% cut (about $73 billion) to non-defense discretionary spending, which funds many civilian agencies and programs. At the same time, it significantly increases defense spending, signaling a clear pivot in national priorities.

What does this mean in practice?

➡️ Many civilian agencies could see substantial reductions, with some cuts exceeding 20%
➡️ Areas like education, environmental programs, labor, and scientific research may be impacted
➡️ Defense spending would rise sharply, reaching historic levels

Supporters say this is about eliminating inefficiencies and strengthening national security, while critics argue it could reduce investment in essential public services.

It’s important to remember: this is a proposal—not final policy. Congress will ultimately decide what makes it into the final budget.

💬 What’s your take? Should the government prioritize defense spending, or maintain stronger investment in domestic programs?
