Join us this Tuesday evening, October 13th, for our monthly fly tying session. 6:30pm. Rapides Westside Library. Guests are welcome. Please note, this month's tying session is on a TUESDAY.

This month, Chris Williams will lead us in tying the Shrimp Slurpee. This unique top water shrimp pattern was created by Bend-It-Flies in Charleston, SC. While it's a great pattern for redfish and speckled trout, it also has been used with good success for bass as well.

As always, our fly tying sessions are open to the public. All materials are provided, and we have sets of tools for beginners to use during the session. On Saturday, October 10th, we have a casting clinic from 9am to 12 noon at Big Island Field in City Park, Alexandria. PLEASE check here and email as we are monitoring a possible Gulf Storm that could result in cancellation.

On Tuesday, October 13th, it's our monthly fly tying session. Please note ... this month it's on the 2nd TUESDAY due to Columbus Day holiday. Chris Williams will be our special guest instructor, leading us in tying the Shrimp Slurpee.

On Monday, October 26th, our general membershp meeting will feature KFF members Jerry Patton and Robert Kinberger sharing their bonefish trip to Utilla, Honduras. These presentations are always enjoyable and informative.

We are now looking for demonstration tiers for the annual Kent House Sugar Day Fest in November. If interested, please register on the form link on website so we know how many chairs/tables we need.

Join us this Monday, Sept. 28th, for our monthly general meeting. 6:30 pm,
Rapides Westside Library, 5416 Provine, Alexandria.

After casting, knots are the 2nd most critical skill in fly fishing. Bad knots or poor knot selection = lost fish. This month, we'll identify and demonstrate our favorite knots for connecting leaders, flies, and fly line/backing. As well as tips and suggestions for which knots work best in different situations. Knots we'll cover include: Davy knot, Double Davy, Perfection Loop, Non-Slip Loop knot, Surgeon’s knot (double and triple), Blood knot, Improved Blood Knot, Double Uni knot, and possibly the nail knot.

If you're new to the club or to fly fishing, this is a MUST meeting! Even if you're a veteran fly angler, you'll appreciate some of the wisdom on why certain knots perform better.

Thanks to the many folks who attended our Cenla Fly Fishing Festival , the many great tiers who showed up, and everyone who helped organize and/or work the event. And to the City of Pineville, for their cooperation and assistance. Thanks to all of you, we were able to make a generous donation to the Food Bank.

This month, Jerry Patton leads us in tying the EP Fiber Clouser. A couple club members learned this variation of the Clouser Minnow from Duane Hada - perhaps the most knowledgeable smallmouth guide in the South - on a trip with him this past summer. Update on our Fly Tying 101 Clinic set for this Tuesday evening, September 8th. The class is now FREE to everyone (no materials fee will be charged). Join us this Monday, August 24th, for our monthly general meeting. 6:30 pm,
Rapides Westside Library, 5416 Provine, Alexandria

This month we welcome A.J. Rosenbohm via Zoom. A.J. is president of the Gulf Coast Council (GCC) of Fly Fishers International (FFI), and a past president of New Orleans Fly Fishers. A longtime accomplished fly angler, he's also a nationally recognized commercial fly tier and will soon be opening a new fly shop in the metro area.

A.J. will present on fly fishing for Rio Grande cichlids in and around the New Orleans area. Catching these wary fish takes patience, but once they eat your fly, "it's like hooking into a wet cat".

A.J. will share his secrets to catching these fish, especially the larger "brainiacs", and will also discuss the NOFF club's annual Rio Rumble coming up on October 3rd (KFF members are invited).
