What a great turnout for our program with District Governor Leif Hagen and Assistant Governor Cindy Hawker! 👏

We loved hearing their reflections on driving around Alexandria and spotting Rotary’s fingerprints all over our community. A great reminder of the impact we’ve made together.

Rotary has called Alexandria home since February 1938, and for over 85 years we’ve stayed true to our motto: Service Above Self.

Please join us in welcoming our newest Rotary member, Guy Christian, who found his way to us through his love of pickleball!

It was fitting that Maureen Eigen arranged for Brock Smith of The Blind Squirrel Pickleball to be our guest presenter. He shared some great takeaways, starting with a surprising one: pickleball isn’t new at all. It actually got its start back in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington, decades before most of us ever picked up a paddle.

Welcome, Guy, and thank you, Brock, for a fun and informative presentation!

We had the honor of recognizing Rick & Sandy Paulsen in front of the entire club with a Major Donor Award, Paul Harris Fellow Plus 8. Rick has been a member of our club since 1983, over 40 years of service to Alexandria Rotary!

Not sure what that means? Here is a quick Rotary 101: The Paul Harris Fellow recognition is named after Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary, and is one of the most respected symbols of financial commitment to The Rotary Foundation, recognized around the world. It is earned when a person’s giving to the Foundation reaches $1,000 or more, and each additional $1,000 given earns another level, which is where the “Plus” numbers come in. Rick’s Plus 8 reflects years of extraordinary generosity to the causes Rotary supports both locally and around the world, from clean water projects to the fight to end polio.

Kasey Golberg, Rotary President said it best, “it is a gift to be able to give, and we are so thankful for Rotarians like Rick who live that out every day.”

Thank you, Rick, for over four decades of generosity and your heart for service. We are lucky to have you as part of our club! đź’›

We heard from Brandon Plotz, Past President, and a rep from Edward Jones at our weekly meeting about the Alexandria Area Young Professionals (AAYP), a group connecting Alexandria area pros in their 20s and 30s since 2007.

Meghann Edwards, active in both AAYP and Rotary, showed us it’s easy to be part of both! AAYP has an age cutoff of 40, but Rotary has no age limit, so there is always a next step here.

Looking for a service group where you can connect, give back, and have fun? Alexandria Rotary would love to have you.
