Unfortunately, the current status for some of us.

Over my thirty odd years of growing things, I’ve found that people love a houseplant that "talks" to them. The Fittonia (or nerve plant) is famous for it. Forget to water it for a day, and it collapses over the side of the pot like a Victorian lady in a swoon. Every popular growing guide tells you to just wait for this dramatic fainting act before you reach for the watering can. It seems like the perfect, foolproof system, doesn't it? The plant literally tells you when it's thirsty. I used to think so, too. Until a busy week taught me what that collapse actually does below the soil. I ended up killing half a perfectly healthy plant trying to follow that exact "foolproof" advice. And then there are those striking white and pink veins that make them so popular. Most folks assume they're just a pretty pattern. They aren't. They serve a very specific, slightly desperate survival purpose in the wild—and once you understand what it is, you'll instantly realise why they keep slowly crisping up in so many modern living rooms. If you’ve got one of these colourful little divas sitting on your windowsill, there are a couple of things you should probably know before it puts on its next dramatic performance. I’ve put my notes down in the comments.

Alexandria Garden Club members,
We have talked a bit about our desire to offer Garden Tours and day trips. On Sunday, June 14th, at the American Rose Center, Shreveport, Peggy Martin will be a guest in the second of our LUNCH & LEARN series, part of our celebration of June as ROSE MONTH. Peggy is a lovely lady, charming, a great rosarian, and has the distinction of having grown an amazing rose in her garden when Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. Peggy and her rose survived miraculously ! She has an amazing story to tell, and she tells it well.
So, come for LUNCH & LEARN, and we let me give you a tour of the Gardens afterward. Sorry for the short notice, but there is still time. Lunch is at 12:30. $25 Payment Link: https://square.link/u/BfSSQyJS
