Mission Statement

The Alexandria General Employee’s Association (AGEA) was founded to represent general City employees. As public servants, we are committed to providing excellent services to the residents of Alexandria. As the largest group of City employees, we expect equal consideration from City Council and City officials with regard to all forms of salary compensation, fringe benefits, pensi

ons, and working conditions. Our mission is to ensure that we are compensated reasonably and fairly by City officials and City Council, comparable to other government workers in our region, and compared to other employee groups in Alexandria. To accomplish this mission we will advocate for realistic cost of living adjustments, pay scales that provide reasonable growth and compensation for all employees, and other benefits that enable us to provide for our individual and family needs.

From the desk of the President.

My fellow member's, we need to hold elections for AGEA officers in the near future. We are supposed to hold elections every two years and we are somewhat overdue. That being said, if you'd like to run for AGEA President, Vice-President, Treasurer or Secretary and Board Member, shoot an email to the below address and let us know that you are interested in being an AGEA officer. According to the by-laws, newly elected officers take office July 1, 2026, so I wanted to get everyone to start thinking about participating in the process.

Yours in Solidarity,

AGEA President

Hello Everyone;

We need to hold elections for AGEA officers in the near future. We are supposed to hold elections every two years and we are somewhat overdue. That being said, if you'd like to run for AGEA President, Vice-President, Treasurer or Secretary, shoot an email to this address and let us know that you are interested in being an AGEA officer. According to the by-laws, newly elected officers take office in July so I wanted to get everyone to start thinking about participating in the process.

We did the election process by Survey Monkey online last time but we can do something else if you all have suggestions. Personally, I like the Survey Monkey process because it produced analytics in case anyone had questions about the numbers. Anyway, what's most important is that everyone gets an opportunity to nominate someone (yes, you can nominate yourself!) and vote!

If you have any questions or concerns, call Rose (x5012) or Deb (x5027) or send an email.

Friday tip of the day. Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.

Did you know that the AGEA potentially can be the largest employee representative group in the City Of Alexandria, Va.

General employees currently number more than 1,600, more than Schools in total, and more than twice the number of sworn Police, Fire and Sheriff.

There has never been an effective voice for civilian general employees in Alexandria.

As a result, more than half of the City’s 1,600 general employees have been substantially underpaid by the City’s own admission, since 2002.

For the last 15+ years, General City employees have received pay increases far below other City employee groups. There is power in numbers, join so your voice will be heard.
