When Menopause Reopens Old Traumas - For some women, perimenopause can trigger PTSD symptoms like flashbacks, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts. Over the past two decades, researchers have consistently found that experiencing childhood or adult trauma is linked to worse hot flashes, night sweats, and other menopause symptoms. But a study published in 2023 in the journal found that the relationship seems to go both ways: that perimenopause may bring a worsening or resurgence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. (These symptoms include flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, negative mood changes, and hyperarousal.)... https://www.oprahdaily.com/life/health/a71472814/menopause-trauma-symptoms/

A UVM study has found that menopause can significantly affect brain function - The study, led by Julie Dumas, the associate director of the Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit and a psychiatry professor at , examined brain function across three stages: premenopause, perimenopause and postmenopause. Abigail Testo, a postdoctoral research associate in Dumas' lab, conducted the study, and the findings were published in the journal Menopause, according to a community announcement.

The researchers found that brain activity during a "resting state" — when individuals are not actively performing a task — differed significantly across menopause stages. These differences appear to be linked to hormonal changes, particularly fluctuations in estrogen.

The findings suggest that menopause is not only a reproductive milestone but also a critical neurological phase that may influence both present cognitive experiences and long-term brain aging... https://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/news/local/vermont/2026/06/11/university-of-vermont-study-on-menopause-and-brain/90472053007/
