TODAY The 9 Best Strength-Training Exercises to Build Bone Health in Mid-Life and Beyond - Dr. Jocelyn Wittstein explains the four types of exercises to build bone health as you age. Strong bones are crucial to good health, but like many systems in the body, they start to weaken with age.

This is especially true for women, as menopause can cause loss of bone density at a rate of 1-2% a year and in some people as high as 3-5% a year, research has found.

Protecting your bone density — or how porous your bones are — decreases the risk of osteoporosis, a condition where the bones are thin, weak and more likely to fracture. About half of women over age 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis, according to the Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation... https://www.today.com/health/womens-health/workout-routine-beginner-increase-bone-mass-menopause-rcna591392

Great to see National Menopause Foundation, Inc. Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) member featured in this New York Times article "Why Are More Young Women Developing Heart Disease?
Rates are on the rise, but prevention is possible. Here's what experts recommend." The threat of heart disease, and of dying from it, is rising among young women.

Recent research has suggested that nearly one-third of all women ages 20 to 44 will have heart disease in 2050, up from one-fourth today. And women under 55 are more likely to die from heart attacks than men under 55. Despite common misconceptions, "heart disease is, in fact, a woman's disease," said Dr. Emily Lau, co-director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Brigham Women's Heart Health program. But it is possible to lower the risk... https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/06/well/heart-disease-young-women.html

Governor JB Pritzker Signs Legislation Ensuring Women and Domestic Violence Survivors are Seen and Safe - SB 3325 introduces nation-leading expanded menopause education options for health care professionals; SB 3020 protects against tracking, doxing, and online harassment.

Governor JB Pritzker signed into law two pieces of legislation, championed by Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton, that advance the health and safety of women and survivors of domestic violence in Illinois, ensuring that patients are treated by healthcare providers who are fully educated on perimenopause and menopause and domestic violence survivors are protected from emerging forms of technology-facilitated abuse.

In doctors' offices and within the justice system, where women and survivors have historically had to advocate for themselves, the State will ensure every Illinoisan is met with informed care and legal protections that meet the moment.
