Friends of Guest House

Friends of Guest House Friends of Guest House helps women successfully reenter the community from incarceration. RESIDENTIAL is the most intensive level of support.

Friends of Guest House helps non-violent female ex-offenders in Northern Virginia through these three programs:

1. Up to 17 women at a time live in our residential facilities in Northern Virginia, with an average stay of three-to-four months.

2. AFTERCARE continues support to clients who have graduated from the Residential Program and are negotiating the challenges of independent living. Afterca

re lasts about six-to-nine months. So, the Residential-to-Aftercare continuum is about one year.

3. OUTREACH is a non-residential program for women re-entering the community directly from incarceration. Through those three programs, we provide case management, mental health and substance abuse counseling, life skills training, and direct help or community referrals for issues such as:
> medical care
> education
> vocational training
> employment
> housing
> child custody
> legal problems
> emergency needs (food, clothing, shelter)

> We started a SPEAKERS BUREAU in 2008.
> We have recently expanded our assistance to "JUSTICE-INVOLVED" WOMEN: for example, women with a spouse or other family member in jail.

We love end of year giving, so why not mid-year giving? TogetherTuesday is here and we need donors like you to help us hit our goal of $15,050. That number isn't random. It is the funds required to provide a woman with our programs for a whole year. You can help provide the tools needed for a second chance. 91 cents of every dollar goes directly to our programs, and even $15 (about 2 cups of coffee) can provide toiletries and other supplies to a woman entering our program from incarceration and/or addiction. TOMORROW! TogetherTuesday is almost here, and we need the help of donors like you to continue giving women the tools they need to recover and reenter society. We house up to 30 women at a time, and it cost $15,050 to fund a woman for one year. Today that is our goal, since one life changed means the world to us and the community that our women bring strength and resilience into 💙🧡

We hope that you have a meaningful Juneteenth. Friends of Guest House strives to promote racial equality and help reduce the harmful impacts of systemic racism. Guest House is committed to racial equity with 55% of our program participants from the past two years and 65% of our current staff identifying as people of color.

People of color are disproportionally impacted by the justice system, and we see this stark reality in the lives of many of the women we serve. Spreading awareness is one of the first steps to reducing this injustice, and we ask that the community takes time to learn and reflect today.

Two washing machines have been carrying that weight for five years at our Payne Street residence — and they're on their last legs.

When they go down, women miss work. Routines built carefully, day by day, get disrupted. And in reentry, disruption is never small.
