Military Kid Monday 💙

What makes military kids amazing?
They learn how to say goodbye and hello again. They make friends in new places, adapt to new schools and communities, and find ways to make a new house feel like home. They grow up learning things many adults take years to figure out, resilience, flexibility, courage, and how to keep going when things change.

But most importantly, they do it while still being kids. Today, we’re celebrating the military kids who roll with the changes, ask the hard questions, make the best of new adventures, and keep showing us just how incredible they are.

Military kids, we see you. We appreciate you. And we’re cheering you on. 🇺🇸

Homeschooling is a lot of things but “doing it all” doesn’t have to be one of them!

As the school year gets moving, it’s easy to put your own needs at the bottom of the list. But taking care of yourself isn’t something you have to earn after everyone else is taken care of. Some days will be full of learning, and some days will be held together by snacks, library books, and a lot flexibility.

What helps you recharge when homeschooling starts to feel like a lot?

Your Homeschool Space, Perfect or Not!

Some families have a dedicated homeschool room. Others use the kitchen table, a corner of the living room, the library, or a little bit of everywhere.
And honestly? They can all work.

Your homeschool space should fit your family, your kids, and the way you like to learn. Maybe you love having everything organized and ready to go. Maybe you keep a basket of books by the couch and call it good. Maybe your space changes every few months (especially when PCS life gets involved!).
There’s no one “right” way to set up your homeschool.

We’d love to see where the learning happens in your home.

Celebrating Our OCONUS Global Wellness Day Winner!

A huge congratulations to Hickam Homeschool in Hawaii for taking the win at their Global Wellness Day Field Day!
From lots of smiles and plenty of sweat to a few too many wasp stings, it sounds like the day was full of fun, energy, and a whole lot of memories. We love seeing homeschool communities create opportunities for kids to get outside, move their bodies, play together, and simply enjoy being kids.

Congratulations, Hickam Homeschool! And thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a fun celebration of wellness and community.
Wellness can look a lot like this: fresh air, good friends, and a day spent playing outside.

MHA thanks our Global Wellness Day sponsor: Blue Cross and Blue Shield Federal Employee Program

Need a field trip idea that doesn’t cost a thing? We’ve got you.

Check out your local museums, historic sites, libraries, visitor centers, or even a nearby military museum. A lot of places have free admission days, family programs, or no-cost activities that are easy to miss.
And honestly, sometimes the best field trips are the ones you didn’t plan weeks in advance. 😅

So grab the kids, pack a snack, and go see what’s around you!

Photos have a way of capturing the little moments we know we’ll want to remember later.

For military families, that can mean documenting new homes, new places, field trips, family adventures, friends made along the way, and all the everyday moments in between.
Today is a great excuse to look through your camera roll and find a photo that tells a story.

What’s one photo from your homeschool journey that you’ll always treasure? ❤

Not every homeschool starts on the same day. ❤️

Maybe your family is still enjoying the last few weeks of summer, maybe you’re easing back into routines, or simply waiting for a PCS to settle.

Homeschooling gives us room to make a schedule that works for our families. There’s no prize for starting first. Take the time you need, enjoy the transition, and start when it feels right for your crew.

How has being part of a military family shaped your learning?

Maybe moving has taught you how to make friends quickly. Maybe new places have sparked a love of geography, history, or exploring. Maybe homeschooling has given your family the flexibility to learn wherever you are.

Military life can shape the way our kids learn in so many ways, and every family’s story is different.
