🇺🇸 Flag Day Reflection 🇺🇸

For military families, the American flag is often more than a symbol—it’s a reminder of service, resilience, and the values we strive to pass on to our children.

Today, take a moment to talk with your homeschoolers about what the flag represents and why Flag Day is celebrated.

What does the flag mean to your family? ❤️🤍💙

MCEC® is proud to announce a new collaboration with the Military Homeschoolers Association.🎉

Together, we're committed to expanding access, support, and advocacy for military-connected children and families, including the thousands of military families who choose to homeschool.

For MCEC President & CEO Mary Bier, this work is personal. As an Army family, she and her children know firsthand what it means to navigate education as a military kid. Frequent moves, transitions between schools, and the weight of a parent's service create unique challenges and unique strengths. That lived experience is at the heart of why partnerships like this one matter.

Military families deserve every available option for their children's education. Whether in a traditional classroom, a virtual setting, or a homeschool environment, every military-connected child deserves the support and resources they need to thrive.

This collaboration strengthens our ability to show up for them across every path they choose. We look forward to the work ahead with MHA!

We are excited to announce a new collaboration between the Military Homeschoolers Association and Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC)!!!

For military families, education is rarely a one-size-fits-all journey. Frequent moves, deployments, overseas assignments, and educational transitions often require families to make thoughtful decisions about how best to support their children. For many, homeschooling becomes a path to educational continuity, flexibility, and success.

As a retired military spouse and veteran homeschool parent who educated five children through high school while navigating military life, MHA's Founder and Executive Director knows firsthand both the opportunities and challenges military homeschool families experience. Throughout her family's journey, homeschooling provided stability during seasons of constant change.

"Military families deserve to be seen, supported, and valued regardless of the educational path they choose for their children. This partnership represents an important step toward ensuring that military homeschool families have a stronger voice, greater visibility, and increased access to resources and support across the military-connected community."

Together, MHA and MCEC are committed to expanding awareness, strengthening connections, and supporting military-connected homeschooling families, wherever they are stationed.

We look forward to the impact this partnership will have for military families around the world.

This is so beautifully true!!

This is so beautifully true!!

You were never there.

The goal to every move out, is to make it seem as though you were never there. You take your pictures off the walls. Scrub the wall of your dogs’ favorite spot to rest against. Remove the flowers you and your kids planted. Empty the house of all your belongings.

You were never there.

But I was.

My family made memories there. We laughed. We cried. We grew. We may never be able to visit this house again, but it was special to our family for the short time we lived there.

We were there.

When I move into a new home I don’t think about the family before—I’m excited to make new memories, in a new place. I wonder what this new home will be remembered for. The past houses have gained the title of “where we brought ____ home for the first time”, “where ___ learned to walk”, “where they lost their first tooth”, and “where they both learned to ride a bike”. I don’t ever stop to wonder what this house was for the family before us.

When it’s time to move, I always feel that pause. The sigh of grief. I won’t be revisiting this house. I won’t be able to drive by it and show the kids the house they learned to walk in. They won’t ever know what it’s like to have THE house they grew up. At this point they will have a whole address book full of homes that they lived in. The feelings always come, and they always hit me when we are getting ready to move out. When we have taken the pictures off the walls, removed the toys from the backyard, and return the house to a blank slate. When we are erasing all evidence that we were there.

I wish we could leave a guest book in each home. A way for families to keep their special memories preserved in the house. Just one thing to show that we were there.

We left it empty and ready for the next family, but we were there once.
