This article, from a mainstream, industrial food publication, outlines issues that are impacting our global food system.
Food prices will continue to increase.
Transporting food will become more complex and more expensive.
The industrial production of food crops will face significant supply chain disruptions.

There isn’t a plan to address any of these, or a laundry list of other issues, facing how we supply our communities with food.

Right now, is a great time to put a garden in. Get some books on soil building, composting, and seed saving.
Start talking to your neighbors. Go for walks in your neighborhood every day. Say hello to folks. Share what you have and share what you know.

Want to learn more so you can do more? Check the comments for a link to apply to the 2026 Louisiana Small Scale Agriculture Coalition Farmer Training Program.

There is so much we can do as neighbors and communities to make a difference.

Driven by a volatile cocktail of geopolitical conflicts and skyrocketing fuel and fertilizer costs, the U.S. fresh produce industry is navigating a hidden crisis where stable retail averages mask a shrinking financial safety net for independent farmers.

Yes, we need people to buy food from farmers.
And yes, we need advocates and bridge builders all along the way. People committed to co-creating systems of food production, food transportation, food access, food processing, and food waste reduction.
