American Legion Post 24, Old Town Alexandria, Virginia Veterans strengthening America. The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active members. A museum and Gadsby's Tavern occupy the other two buildings.

First formed under another name in 1919, Post 24 has existed as Post 24 since 1920. In 1929, WW I veterans restored and preserved the 18th and 19th Century three buildings that form Gadsby's complex. In 1972, Post 24 gave the complex to the City of Alexandria and now occupy one building. We call it George Washington's Post because visiting Post 24 means seeing buildings that were visited by three centuries of American veterans.

Reminder: Viewing and Wake for Past Post Commander and Chaplain Emeritus Dick Evans begins at 5 pm, Wednesday, September 30, at the Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr, Alexandria, VA 22315. Post 24 Memorial Ceremony at the Jefferson Funeral Chapel will begin at 7 pm. Legionnaires should wear the official American Legion cap. There will be no memorial activities at the Post. Please come to Jefferson Funeral Chapel for the viewing and memorial ceremony. All are invited to the 7 pm memorial ceremony.

Thursday, October 1, Viewing at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mount Vernon Highway, Alexandria, VA, begins at 9:30 am.

Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 am.

Interment service at National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico (Quantico National Cemetery), 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA, at 1:30 pm. Please plan to arrive by 1:10 pm, to line up vehicles at the administration building. The procession will then go to the interment location. The Cemetery is publicly accessible. It is not on the Marine Base, so there will be no need to access the base for the interment service.
