Restoring Belitung's Marine Ecosystem: A Call for Action.
Last July, our team at The Only One Ocean Corp embarked on a critical mission to revitalize the damaged coral reefs of Belitung Island. Tin mining has wreaked havoc on the local marine environment, leading to severe water pollution, coral reef degradation, and a decline in marine biodiversity.
These reefs are crucial for sustaining the island's rich marine life and supporting the livelihoods of coastal communities. By planting new coral and releasing sea turtle hatchlings, we're taking a significant step towards restoring this fragile ecosystem. However, more needs to be done.
This clip that we've been taken on our trip, shows how lands in Belitung has been ravaged for mining, leaving behind a lunar wasteland. Now, the miners turn their greed towards the very heart of the island's lifeblood – the coral reefs. This insatiable search for tin suffocates these vibrant ecosystems with sediment, a slow, silent killer supporting local initiatives focused on marine conservation.
Join us in our mission to restore Belitung's coral reefs and protect its marine life. Let's work together to create a healthier, more sustainable future for this beautiful island.
