“Cooking Autism has impacted my relationships in such a positive way.”

Catherine Hansen, a Speech Pathologist, shared how cooking groups have created meaningful connections with students, families, and teachers alike. Students look forward to cooking days, proudly sharing what they’ve made with their families and building communication, vocabulary, sequencing, and social skills along the way.

One of her favorite memories was hearing from a parent during an IEP meeting that their son brought home the communication board and recipe so the entire family could cook together. Moments like these remind us that life skills learning extends far beyond the classroom. 🍳✨

A huge congratulations to Cooking Autism Inc. grant recipient Kasey Hatcher and her students at Margaret Brent Elementary School for launching their very own student-run snack cart!

Through this hands-on experience, students strengthened important life skills including communication, teamwork, money management, problem-solving, and customer service while applying Virginia SOL concepts in a meaningful real-world setting.

From taking orders and calculating totals to shopping for supplies and delivering snacks to staff, the students showed incredible dedication, independence, and pride in their work. We are so proud of the confidence and joy this project inspired in each of them! 💙
