AAUW-Mt. Vernon (VA) Branch Mt. Vernon Branch AAUW was founded in 1956. Our branch meets monthly from September through May with many activites interspersed throughout the year.

Welcome to Mt. Vernon Branch AAUW. We hold presentations monthly on a variety of topics related to our mission of advocacy for women and girls. We enjoy being with our members in our Book Group, Dining Out Group, and Game Night. We are involved with community outreach by registering new voters in the months before elections, through our relationship with Mt. Vernon Registrars

The House-passed a bill that puts higher education further out of reach for women, students of color, and low-income communities. AAUW joined 40+ partners urging the Senate to reject this harmful plan and protect pathways to college for all.

The House just passed a budget reconciliation bill that amounts to one big, broken promise to students. It threatens to erode the very foundation of public education, slash Pell Grants and student aid, and make it harder for millions — especially women, student parents, and students of color — to afford and complete college.
It doesn’t stop there: the bill could leave millions of women with less access to health care, higher health care costs, and fewer child care options.
We’re outraged. This bill undermines educational opportunity, economic security, and basic support systems women rely on.
✊ Now it’s up to the Senate to stop it. Contact your senators TODAY and tell them: Vote NO on the reconciliation bill. Protect students. Protect women

AAUW honors the recent passing of Lilly Ledbetter and her outstanding legacy, which will impact women well into the future. She was the pioneer of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 to ensure all women receive fair pay for their work.

Ms. Ledbetter and AAUW had a long-lasting, strong, and productive relationship, and we held her in high esteem as an unwavering icon and trailblazer in the fight for equal pay.
