Our Story

Nathaniel’s Hope Buddy Break at Spirit Life Church in Alexandria MN is a FREE kids/respite program where kids with special needs (VIP kids) make new friends, have fun playing games, hear and see great children’s stories, videos, music and more! Siblings have fun too! Meanwhile their caregivers get a break from their ongoing care-giving responsibilities. This respite is usually provided for 3 hours.

Buddy Break is a growing outreach to the VIP community done in partnership with churches across the nation. Spirit Life Church is one of those partners and provides “Buddies” who are screened and trained, then paired one-on-one with a VIP during Buddy Break.

Nathaniel’s Hope is an Orlando -based outreach organization dedicated to sharing hope and encouragement with kids with special needs and their families, as well as educating and equipping the community to reach out to VIP kids and their families. Tim and Marie Kuck established Nathaniel’s Hope in honor of their son, four-year-old Nathaniel Timothy Kuck, who was born with multiple special needs. Nathaniel proved to be a “miracle boy” beating the odds and overcoming many health challenges before he passed away in 2001. the Kuck’s believe Nathaniel’s “purpose in life” is fulfilled by providing respite to VIP parents/caregivers and fun to VIP kids and their siblings.

We at Spirit Life Church are excited to be able to offer this program to our community. We see a great need and want to be a place of hope, joy and encouragement offering practical support to the VIP kids and families of our growing community here in the area surrounding Alexandria.
