Alexandria-Mt. Vernon Chapter member, Laura Coates Brings Her Voice and Her Heart Home to Jack and Jill

There is nothing more powerful than watching one of our own step into the spotlight with purpose. At the 47th Biennial National Convention in Baltimore, Mother Member Laura Coates took the stage as town hall facilitator—commanding the room with her signature clarity, confidence, and conviction.

She led a dynamic recognition of mission aligned partners and reminded us why her voice resonates so deeply across the nation. To have her bring that brilliance home to Jack and Jill was nothing short of extraordinary.

The Mothers of the Alexandria–Mt. Vernon Chapter are proudly supporting the 2026 Jack and Jill National Conference in Baltimore! 💙💗

AMV mothers are volunteering in our host region at the Jacqueline Moore Bowles Teen Leadership Summit, which connects teens from across the country, and helping facilitate a meaningful Foster Love project where teens built skateboards for children in care. 🛹✨

A separate group of dedicated AMV mothers volunteering in shifts preparing conference spaces, organizing materials, teen dances, the Sponsorship Lounge, ensuring everything is ready for families and partners nationwide. Their teamwork and commitment shine through every detail. đź’ž

As we celebrate Independence Day and look ahead to America’s 250th Birthday in 2026, we proudly honor the immeasurable contributions of Black Americans to our nation’s story.

For generations, Black innovators, educators, entrepreneurs, artists, scientists, military heroes, civic leaders, and trailblazers have helped shape the ideals of freedom, opportunity, and progress that define America. Their resilience, excellence, and leadership continue to inspire future generations to dream boldly and serve purposefully.

Today, we celebrate not only our nation’s history, but also the enduring legacy of Black excellence that has strengthened America at every step of its journey.

The Alexandria-Mt. Vernon Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. transformed the Laurel Grove School Museum’s First Annual Juneteenth Celebration into an extraordinary educational experience by empowering our youth to become historians, educators, and community ambassadors while preserving and sharing an important piece of Fairfax County’s African American heritage.

Fairfax County Franconia District Supervisor Rodney Lusk and Virginia House Delegate Garrett McGuire attended the celebration, demonstrating strong public support for preserving local history. Delegate McGuire presented House Resolution No. 205 commemorating the legacy of Laurel Grove School and delivered a proclamation on behalf of the Virginia General Assembly.
