Ethical Eating at MVUC

Ethical Eating at MVUC Becoming aware of where our food comes from and how it impacts ourselves and the environment.

Our group meets monthly to discuss issues surrounding food choices and options, along with their impact on our health and the environment. We hope to be a resource for information about understanding how the way we eat, from production to consumption, affects our bodies and our world.

Any OT’s out there in northern Virginia interested in pelvic health? Or know if any PT’s who are interested or already trained? I have recently been getting trained & my clinic’s caseload is EXPLODING- we’re looking for a part-time therapist primarily to treat our pelvic floor dysfunction caseload. Experience and/or training in the area is a plus, but we are willing to train & provide mentorship for the right person. PM me if interested!

This may be a long shot but- can’t hurt to try! Any pelvic floor specialist physical or occupational therapists out there? I manage an outpatient rehab clinic in Woodbridge that has recently started a pelvic health program, and our caseload is growing rapidly. We are looking for a part-time PT or OT, prior experience & training is a plus, but we are willing to train and mentor the right person. PM me if interested!

Repair Cafe coming this Saturday, February 28, 9 am – 1 pm, Hollin Hall First Floor
Don't nix it...Fix it! Let our experts show how to repair household items so you can use them rather than dump them. Bring us your tired, your poor, broken, chipped, snagged, and ripped items that are destined for the dumpster. We repair/adjust bicycles; rewire old lamps; fix jewelry, install watchbands (please bring the new band with you), eyeglasses; untangle stuff; mend; repair knit items; repot sad plants, and much, much more. If we can't fix it, Do It Yourself Del Ray will suggest creative ways to repurpose unfixables. For more information, contact Barbara Bacon, at [email protected].

This summer, caring homeowners from a Northern Virginia church, synagogue, and mosque are coming together to form a solar purchasing group. If you've ever wanted to go solar at home, now is your chance to do so in good company!

How does it work?
Based on the same principle as buying in bulk, the group will go through the process of purchasing home solar systems together.

By going solar as a group, participants will save up to 30% off the cost of a solar electricity system, and will have the support of the co-op throughout the process instead of having to go it alone.

Big win for the environment and our food safety! Congrats to some of our members from the MVUC Green Sanctuary group, who were instrumental in getting together a photo petition to ask the Alexandria City Council to take action to stop the non-therapeutic feeding of antibiotics to farm animals last Tuesday. The City Council, together with the mayor and vice-mayor, approved the measure unanimously. Fantastic!

Come the the Alexandria City Council meeting tonight and join other MVUCers in an effort to decrease unnecessary and dangerous antibiotic use in our food. This is a serious problem that has been shown to increase antibiotic-resistant infections. Let your voice be heard!
